I just picked it up on iPad. Having fun with it but the sheer random nature of it is frustrating at times.

Just got to the flagship fight for the first time last night and got destroyed in short order.

Love the game for what it is.

Yeah I got some hours on it. I've only been able to beat the flagship with a stealth/boarding build. Always very destroyed in a fair gunfight.

Isn't this typically the case with you?

I had a Flak II cannon, Ion Bomb and Burst Laser II for weapons. Ion kept missng, so did Flak. Frustrating. Up until that point, I was destroying everything I came across easily. The evade of the flagship is incredible.

3 shields and 48% evasion

Once my stealth popped, my engine went on the first salvo, then shields next. So many fires and whatnot, I couldn't overcome it.

I'm approaching 100 hours in the game. Extremely fun rogue-like, probably the most fun one I've ever played. Any rogue-like will be frustrating if you don't get the right RNG, but once you play enough to know a good strategy for builds and ways to fight you can overcome some bad RNG and the game becomes so much fun.

I got it on the iPad. Actually is very ipad friendly. I have spent a ton of time and have never made it to the end. I play on normal.

Is it really considered a rogue-like? I played it some on PC and enjoyed it.

I'd say it is one, since every run is fresh and randomly-generated and there is perma-death, plus the steam store description calls it a "spaceship simulation roguelike-like".

lots of hours in it, but I really suck at it never made it to the end. From what I read boarding parties are almost a must to beat this game.

Seriously? I hate fighting boarders. I normally hide in the med bay and open all the air locks

Being able to fight a boarding party isn't a must, but having one almost is. You can send crew to the flagship to disable weapon systems one by one while avoiding fire with the cloak. There is no way to survive straight up once it is damaged and uses the 10 laser attack.

I've put about 60 or 70 hours into the Steam version and have played it a little bit since the advanced edition update came out. It's a lot of fun but really tough. I've only beaten all the phases of the rebel flag ship twice but it's still fun even when I lose. One of the main things is to take out the gun that shoots 3 rockets at once and kill all of the crew but one. If you kill the entire crew the ship's AI takes over and things get even harder.

Outside of Spelunky, it's probably been my favorite of the semi-recent rash of "rogue-likes/lite's".

Great game. Knew from the minute I saw it I'd like it.

Tough as all get out though. That's what makes it interesting.

I find myself going through phases where I'll play multiple lives before I get tired of it. Not try it for a few weeks, then give it another go.

I forgot about this game. It's been a while since I've played, and I've forgotten some details. I do remember I made it to fight the flagship twice, and got annihilated both times.

Been on the edge of buying this for some time now.

Been stopped because of things like this Ive read:

The whole appeal of the rogue-like genre is doing things your way

I mean, you can get to the flagship using any number of builds but beating it is another challenge. Going head to head with the drones pecking away and the cluster laser just destroys shield/hull, I'm not sure how to survive it without stealth.

If you have at least 3 shields and 40-45% evade then you can usually dodge those enough to take minimal damage or none at all. I've won most of my runs without stealth because it's so expensive and I like putting my scrap into other things.

Since I usually go stealth, I ignore the engine upgrades
