Mantel is installed, that fricker was heavy!!

Sinks, countertops, and cabinets finished.
Floors should be done today. Carpenters should be back tomorrow to finish the base boards and put the interior doors back up. I'm pumped to get in it.

Man it's been hard at times and fun at others, just be glad to get done. Hopefully wife can start moving in this weekend. That piece is for the TV mount.

To mount a tv?

My question is, with such a beautiful mantel and rock facing/facade, why would you go with a little home depot insert fireplace? You need a big fire place that will hold more than 3 standard size pieces of firewood.

Something more open like this...

That's a Lennox freestanding insert fire place, its a 10x as efficient as an old style masonry fireplace. If I'm gonna cut firewood, I want it to be used for heat vs. being pretty.

I see. Nice. It looks bigger than the ones I was referring to. ETA: I see it has a 20" log capacity.

I just notice them because my old place had a little bitty insert that was really too small for normal wood, stuff would roll out on you while you tried to stoke it. When we bought our new house I noticed it had a larger masonry fireplace. It was an important selling point for me.

The masonry fireplaces are better looking without a doubt. We will probably build an outdoor masonry fireplace in the future. The fireplace/mantel and the ceiling in the living room are my favorite things in the house.

Nice crib. What's the outside built of? Cemplank, brick, or wood?

I converted a great room ceiling to light cedar and it was a fun project and looked great afterwards. Your crib looks very nice.

Did you build the cabinets or have them built? Looks great.

I regret not trying to sub my house out. There's no telling how much my builder made off of me for being lazy.
