I have not been since November. I can tell you the river is high and muddy right now, but you should be able to find some reds and clean enough water in the outer bays. Be prepared to travel farther than you typically do in the late summer and fall. Snow melt and rains up north make Venice in the spring and early summer slightly more challenging.

East side of the river will be, but the west will stay clean.
You can still catch in Venice, but it's just a little harder with all the muddy water right now.

Launch location?

Myrtle Grove or Lafitte could be the safer choice if it's within range. Never know what the river will do this time of year, a bad rain event in the plains can affect the river (and the fish)in the spring in Venice. Contrary to popular belief it's not just about the snow melt, and rain we get in our region has almost no affect on the Mississippi river level.

Ahhh, same as last year, Delta Marina I'm guessing, then Delacroix is still an option.

As usual, lots to cover.

I wish I had the knowledge and balls to fish that area. I've never been, but have heard it's a great place to redfish. Have friends who have been with others who had experience, but no one I ever fish with has enough first hand knowledge. And it's not a place I'm comfortable just going put my 17' boat in the water and exploring.

KG - Just head down there the weekend before big duck season in November. Follow the boats, take it slow, you'll do fine and get addicted to Venice like everyone else does.

My cousin is talking about taking his 42' Bertram down to spend a weekend during duck season. If that happens, we're going to tow a few surface drives and I'll probably take my flats boat. He's the only one familiar with the area, but that's experience is mainly with Tarpon fishing, so he isn't super famliliar with the marsh.

Do it... DO IT!!!

what's your email? I'll send you a couple pics from last November, from first weekend of big duck season. Use the pics to talk him into going.

But I did just realize that the person growing inside my wife will be popping out around September. I doubt I get a whole lot of chances for trips like that this year.
