Mini Me 3. Used a rich mahogany stain. 5 coats of spar varnish inside and 3 outside. Still needs to lite sand the outside again and two more coats.

So Fish, if I wanted a full size version of that, how many coats of stain and varnish needed to protect it with being on the water maybe 6 times a year.

I appreciate it for the artistic side and the opportunity to play with it a few times each year.

Thanks
Frank

That looks nice Fish.

I finally found some time and borrowed a power planer this weekend. I got the ends down flat and will start on the handles next or should I finish the seat first?

Do your handles next. That will keep everything together, locking everything in place.

One coat of stain applied by hand rubbed in with a clean cloth. 3-4 coats of spar varnish inside and 4-5 outside will seal it.

A full size is going to take over a qt of stain and close to a gallon of varnish. Do sand in between each coat. As long as you keep it out the water and sun when not used, it should last a life time.

re: The second pirogue build is on

OK guys that are interested in a set of plans and bow stems. This is what I have so far. With this and that link I posted with full build pictures, I'm sure someone can build one. This is a set for a two man pirogue that is 14' long with 9 1/2" sides and the widest point can be made to 28", but I wouldn't go over 26" for best tracking.

Let me know what y'all think.

I did for a few hours. Then it started to rain on and off all day yesterday which was a good thing. More rest.

I'm going to try to put together a CD with pictures and instructions in a package.

Hey Fish, if you draw it on a 8 1/2 by 11 sheet of paper and take a good photo of it. I'd draw it up in AutoCAD for you.
