What in the world do people without kids spend their money on? I'm not talking about younger couples, I'm talking established, married couples who have made the decision not to have kids.

Do they just have stupid amounts of disposable income? Two salaries. No savings for college, summer camp, bullshite recitals, etc. Don't have to feed/clothe 2/3 more people or buy a 4-5 bedroom house.

I've always thought of having kids, but it sure is scary financially. My SO and I could easily live the rest our lives on our current 27 year-old salaries if we didn't have kids. With standard salary growth and promotions you almost have to be rolling in it if you don't have kids and aren't a financial dumbass.

Nicer houses, nicer cars. More in retirement savings. More vacations. More toys(ex: kayaks, boats, etc).

Basically whatever they want.

I do a lot of drugs, go to concerts/festivals, and generally piss away money on what I like without it putting me in dire straits.

shite's thoroughly enjoyable.

Never having them myself. Still young though so not "rolling in it" quite yet.

I will be spending it on all the fun stuff that parents cant go do.

Being spontaneous with money is something parents cant do.

Oh hey, im off of work for the week, lets go to Napa and drink some wine and go to French Laundry.

Yea parents arent doing that

I've decided on having just one kid. That way I get best of both worlds. Get to be a parent(cause deep down I recognized I do want this role) but still have money to live a decent life.

It's pretty damn easy to piss away money and not have much to show for it........ More money you make the more this is the case.

Like there have been points in my life where I was making enough to do awesome vacations, max out 401K, new clothes every week, etc, you get the point.. but... I some how spent all the money without doing any of that shite and nothing to show for it.... I mean it would have been nice to atleast have some new threads in the closet, but nope...

Would love to say now that i've been humbled by life and have lost trucks, house, and a career, my rights, that now if I got it all back i'd be more appreciative and make something out of it all instead of just pissing it away.... probably never make up for everything I've lost in life :(

meh.

once you have one, you dont get the best of both worlds. you will have more money than if you would have 2-3 kids but you wont have the flexibility of a couple with no kids.

damn its been a rough month at work, lets take a break and go blow off some steam in vegas. not happening with a kid. we'll be on the plane with drinks in hand while yall are back at work or going to dinner at the local fine dining place with a babysitter at home.

You will probably be well enough off, financially, but even one kid greatly inhibits your ability to just go do whatever floats your fancy.

I am a very selfish and fun-loving person, and I'd be doing a great disservice to a child by making myself its father. I just have the self-awareness to know that I'd be a shitty parent, which is not as common as I'd like.

I fall into this category. We lost a pregnancy and it devastated my wife, and we never had kids after that. I'm sure if we had even one child, we would likely live in a different house and drive different cars than we do today. Vacations would probably be different too.

It's ok though Jones. I've very glad I seriously considered no kids at all though. Opened my eyes to what I want in life. Instead of having a kid cause it's the thing you just do, I know I actually do want to be a parent.

Of course I do realize this. But I'm ok with it.

The time I didn't have kids around I was a bit wild. I think I need them around to help keep me somewhat "normal."

Oh I'm not downing it at all.

Well congrats because so many people dont go through this thought process.

It probably sucks for my unborn kids because I know I would be a great parent. I just dont have the desire to have them and the feeling hasnt changed in 10+ years. Maybe Ill change my mind some day
