On public library computer

I had just finished writing an 8 page essay on paradise lost, and I leaned back in my chair and kicked the power cord

The MS word is set to auto save every 10 minutes, but there were absolutely no saved documents and no temp files

Nothing. The library staff and myself both searched for about 30 minutes and found it not.

Is there anything I overlooked that I can try?

I got some bad news for you...

ETA: Pretty dumb to not be saving it on a flash drive.

Aren't you a professional athlete? Why are you at a library writing papers?

hats off to you for working on your degree, man...I did the same later in life and am damn glad I did...

as far as the computer goes, I had something similar happen to me when I was in school...worked on a lab report until about 3 AM and the blue screen of death popped up...my shite was gone...

honestly, I started retyping right away and it was pretty easy to retype the thing with it so fresh on my mind...I would recommend you not spend too much time being pissed off and trying to recover and start typing it again before it gets too late...

I couldn't get right back after it

I was burnt

PL is a seriously dense read and I had read 6 other accompanying books and essays.

I seriously emailed my professor and told her what happened. Told her I felt utterly defeated, and don't even want to look at a book the rest of the evening

I said in my email "I'm going to lie in bed until the morning, at which time I will either quit school or rewrite it and hope you accept it late.

She replied at midnight tonight and said basically "that sucks dude, I've been there. I will grant you an extension until Thursday at midnight. Look forward to reading it!"

Pretty awesome professor

I made a 50+ slide on PowerPoint once, the stupid computer said it needed to reboot in order to update some files. It even said to save any necessary work before starting to reboot. My dumbass clicked okay and everything was gone.

Been there done that.
