If Republicans take control of the Senate in 2014, Alabama would likely be the only state with two chairmen of A-level committees. No other state has that level of seniority.

On top of that, the way that the Budget and Appropriations committees interplay with each other would create a unique scenario in which Alabama’s senators would be playing leading roles in shaping U.S. economic policy. There’s a very real potential scenario in which one Alabamian (Sessions) sets the number for how much money the federal government has to spend, and another Alabamian (Shelby) plays a major role in how the money is spent.

Republicans and Democrats. They are all the same.

Agree. I know it won't happen, but I'm voting against both in the primaries. They both voted to continue the Patriot Act.

I kinda like Sessions if only for the fact that the Dems wouldn't confirm him for a federal judgeship. Now they have to listen to him maybe twice a week from the well in the Senate. I imagine if those Dems who voted against him had to do it over, they'd be happy to have him sitting on a bench somewhere out of the limelight.

Their first order of business will declare Alabama National Champions in perpetuity.

New Crimson Nike shirts will hit the web a mere seconds later asking:

"GOT INFINITY?"

??

Shelby isn't up for reelection this year, and no one filed to run against Sessions in either the primary or the general election.
