What is the gun-banners excuse, they always say well they can get the guns from other areas, if you extrapolate this then only a planet wide ban could work right?

If they would start shooting the right people they could make a dent in their public pension problem.

gotcha covered on the SECRant Off Topic Board

Chicago's problem isn't tight regulation, it's that surrounding areas don't have tight regulation, too. I believe a sizable minority of guns (40%+) seized in Chicago were purchased outside the city. Which is why people support federal regulation of firearms.

What about the areas surrounding those areas, and the areas around those areas etc. etc. ????/

Human trafficking is illegal and a huge problem around the entire world. It's illegal everywhere and yet it still exists in every city in this country. If you can't stop that, you can't stop hand guns. I wish the libs would just give it a rest. At least come out and say you want total control and stop treating us like idiots.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Stop trying to distract us from the real issue - scared white folks that cling to their guns and Bibles.

Even better, Mexico has some of the most strict gun control laws in the world. Lot of good that does. If we banned/confiscated from law abiding citizens here, we'd still have gun crime, possibly more.

So how do they explain the majority of the guns seized?

So the areas with guns don't have these kinds of problems but the area without guns do... Hmmmm...

The argument is there is that we have guns in the US so they are readily available in Mexico. This is essentially the same argument. The estimated 100,000+ dead along the border is, acording to those making the argument, essentially the fault of Joe Six-pack who supports the 2nd amendment.

So if the biggest problem in Chicago regarding gun control is the fact that surrounding areas do not have equal restrictions, then What the frick do you think will happen to this country if Chicagos restrictions were nationwide?

Maybe criminals just don't follow the law?

Better question, IMO, is "Then, WHY aren't those "surrounding areas" as dangerous?

It is like saying that POISON came through osmosis into our pristine area...but, our area is MORE poisonous than the outside.

I would understand if 'Outside of Chicago' was at "Danger zone 10" and thus, Chicago is at "Danger Zone 7"..but, would otherwise be only at "3".

This is true, it's not really effective to ban guns in one municipality if people can just go over to the neighboring municipality to acquire guns.

You wouldn't have to ban guns where none exist/are produced. Who are the world's largest producers of firearms? The US? Russia? Yes, if you banned gun sales by US manufacturers, and you banned gun imports to the US, you would have the demand met with black market imports from arms producing countries. I suspect that the demand would exceed supply, so there would probably be a major price increase over what we see now. Would this be enough to stem gun violence in the US? Maybe. Would it be as effective as nationwide Constitutional Carry laws? Who knows. There isn't enough data.

This premise still relies on the notion that criminals will "do the right thing" and turn in their guns. I don't expect that to happen.
