Sucks but it's 100% true. The previous regime left a lot of ridiculously soft players and questions marks all over the roster, particularly at QB, OL, & LB. If we're lucky, we'll get to 9 wins by the end of the regular season.

Texas fans know this. They aren't incredibly unrealistic.

good idea to not sugar coat it. they are a long way off. he has to rebuild that program. they are behind A&M, Baylor, and maybe even Tech or TCU at the moment. They are well behind Okst and OU.

I think Strong will do a good job for them. Strong is a no bullshite type of guy who will demand discipline and accountability, basically the opposite of Mac Brown.

Actually in my limited experience with Texas fans, they are mostly negahorns. They do more bitching and complaining with limited expectations. Maybe that was just from Mack Brown fatigue.

"He's not going to go around kissing babies," former UT coach David McWilliams told the American-Statesman of Strong. "And that's good. I know when coach [Darrell] Royal came in, all those guys after the first meeting said, 'Things are going to change around here.' And you're seeing the same thing."

He damn well better if he wants to have any cover for potential mediocre seasons. Half the job at Texas is playing politics with the various big time donors. Also, at David McWilliams. That's the last guy Strong needs to take advice from.

Bob Stoops owned that conference while Mack was there, and Mack was there for a long time. Sure, the fans know they have the resources, but they know they aren't world beaters out the gate.

In my experience with texas fans (whole life), they are mostly frontrunners with unrealistically high expectations.

"We have everything available, and I don't know why we can't be successful," Strong told fans in Fort Worth during the first stop on his bus tour, according to the Austin American-Statesman. "There's no reason for us not to be. Now, I can't tell you how soon it's going to be. Don't hold me to that. Don't say, 'Ooh, coach said next year we'll be in the national ...' We will not be in the national championship game."

UT fans need a heavy dose of reality.

You do realize these are the same fans who thought Sabana would come running if Texas merely lifted its skirts, correct?

Obviously there are exceptions, but as a whole, the texas fanbase is more like the bandwagon lakers fans of college football.

JMHO.

They're incredibly high to be sure but funny coming from a fanbase who propped up the likes of Reggie McNeal as a National Title Winner and Derek Farmer as a first round draft pick. I'd be careful where I was throwing those stones.

I'm not saying Aggies haven't been guilty of the same. Both fanbases tend to get cocky very quickly.

But let's not sit here and pretend that the horns fans are a bastion of humility.

Does "We're Texas" ring a bell?

Same. He'll do well at texas if they give him enough leeway to do his thing.
