What's wrong with tilapia?

Generally, "nice" restaurants don't serve it. Especially if they claim to be a great seafood place.

never been to a nice restaurant that served tilapia

The lowest price at this place is 20 dollars so I would consider it a "nice restaurant". I'm not talking restaurant august or Stella! C'mon guys

I agree they shouldn't serve tilapia unless it's at chain restaurants. I'm not even a food snob

Maya's in Nola is on the border between "casual" and "nice" and they have tilapia on the menu for $22 bucks. It's a great restaurant and they're food is delicious and fresh-made, but I won't order the tilapia fish dish. Not sure if it necessarily is, but I always lean conservative with tilapia because I can't eat farm raised Vietnamese seafood.

How much was the tilapia? If it was more than $12 that is a ripoff. Tilapia pretty much the cheapest fish on the market

Nope.
Would you pay twenty for catfish?
Because that's the cheapest.
Tilapia is about the same price as flounder.

I'm pretty sure tilapia is cheaper than local catfish. Could be wrong.
And hell know I would pay $20 for fcking catfish.

You're wrong.

OK.
I guess it's that fine taste of asian tilapia that keeps so many shitty restaurants from serving catfish instead.
Whatever, you seem like you know your shite, so you win this argument. I will still say tilapia shouldn't be served in seafood restaurant worth a shite.

It was the cheapest thing on the menu $18

Tilapia runs around $6/lb in BR right now.
Catfish can go as low as $4/lb.
These are the regular grocery stores.

Yeah, that's a great reason to avoid it...

How about the fact that it's a cheap bottom dweller that subsists of the waste products of other fish in Chinese/Vietnamese farms?

So is catfish.
