How would Dee Ford fit into this defense?

I keep seeing him mocked to us, and a lot of it is due to laziness (Saints need pass rush help), but let's say we do draft him: how do we use him?

He's clearly a 43 end, and if we do end up taking him, I see us still using a lot of 4 man fronts.
Bc really, two of our "OLBs" are true DEs in Galette and potentially Ford. The only real 34 OLBs we have are Haralson and Butler IIRC.
So it's not a bad thing in that we can be more multiple.....but if we really are moving to a more true 34 front, this would not really support that

Pass stuffing DG used primarily in the nickel slot.

He would rush the QB when in the game.
Did this need its own thread?

He can't play LDE, but Galette can so he'd be useful for whenever Junior/Jordan needed a break. Jordan can also slide inside on passing downs if you want all three on the field. I can't see Ford playing SAM right now on the not-too-frequent occasion that we do run a 3-4.

Well some might think he could transition into linebacker. Idk. He's small even for a 4-3 DE.

Because what we really need to spend a first round pick on is a situational pass rusher.

He has the 3-4 OLB build but the skill set of a 4-3 DE. With proper technique he could do very well IMO. Not a need to me but will never hurt unless he just flat out can't cover anyone when he's on the field.

imagine a formation with Galette and Ford on the outside rushing the qb when needed along with jordan and hicks etc.
What if Galette gets knicked up for a game or two or whole season... We got close to jack and shite after that. Oh butler.... who mildly produced for dallas 2 years ago that we're putting all our hopes and dreams into him breaking out cause we saw rob rubbing oil on butler's chest.

If that's all he is (I'm not a college guy, so I'm not familiar with him), then I don't see us taking him in the first round. Ryan likes versatility.

I'd say Dee Ford is no less versatile than Junior.

Is Ford a good run defender? Junior has turned into a decent one.

Dee is a one trick pony right now.
If Jr. plays the run half as well as he rushes...watch out!

His NFL.com profile
STRENGTHS: Very good acceleration and burst to beat blockers off the ball. Anticipates the snap very well and has a long second step. Plays with urgency and keeps working to the quarterback. Outstanding energy and work ethic. Athletic enough to fall in coverage and play on his feet. Beat Texas A&M RT Cedric Ogbuehi for two sacks to close out a 45-41 upset victory in 2013 and finished the season strong. Respected, defensive tempo-setter. Distinguished by his effort, hustle and pursuit.
WEAKNESSES: Undersized -- thin-framed, lacks bulk and anchor strength to dig in vs. the run. Cannot convert speed to power and gets stalled if he cannot work half of a blocker. Struggles to discard blockers when locked up and gets inverted. Not comfortable moving in reverse. Has consistently been dinged with injuries and has never made it through a full season healthy. Recorded a very pedestrian 4.73-second 20-yard shuttle time at his pro day, indicative of marginal change of direction.
Seems like a 1 trick pony at the moment.

Not at this time. I wouldn't say Junior has turned into a decent one. As the league is becoming more and more pass happy, you can't have enough pass rushers especially when we run a 3-4 and we got nothing past Junior. Look i'm not saying Ford is my #1 guy but there is a need and logic behind such a move.
