Saw a pair today by the camp in Grand Isle. I'll send pics tomorrow if they're still here. Anyone else ever see them?

Saw one in Lake Charles years ago. Very distinctive coloration.

You sure it wasn't a pair of Vermillion Flycatchers?

Sure, we had 2 males in our back yard last week. Gorgeous birds. We're nearly at peak migration so you should be seeing some good birds down at Grand Isle now. It's a great spot since it's the first land they see after crossing the Gulf of Mexice so they drop down for some rest, food, and water.

I'm taking off later this week to bird the Florida coast from Tampa down to Key West. Can't wait.

Coastal Louisiana fishing is what got me interested in birding in the first place.

Summer Tanagers are very common here once you leave the bottom land. I see them every time I camp at Indian Creek and almost every summer round of disc golf at Buhlow. I have never seen a Scarlet.

This morning I actually saw Scarlet and Summer tanagers. They're very shy birds so the pic quality didn't come out as good as I would have liked but I'll post them later anyway. I also have a nice shot of a Rose Breasted Grosbeak. Great day for bird watching.

Cool. I have gotten one Gros in my yard. Obviously migration, as he did not stay and never came back.

We had a Rose-breasted Grosbeak on our feeder the afternoon. Great looking bird, we only see one or two in a year.

A few pictures. The first two are from around 5 days ago in our woods and the swamp behind. The other two are St. George Island 2 weeks ago. We got lucky and found a Great Horned Owl nest in an abandoned Osprey nest.

I'm planning to try some fairly serious bird photography later this week.

Sometimes I get several Rose Breasted Grosbeaks at my feeder. They come though when the pecan trees are putting on their catkins. Ft Morgan is also another great place to bird this time of the year. The Sargents have the mist nets up and are banding. Here's some action from Fort Morgan[quote]LINK ]

Is the third pic a prothonotary warbler? Named after the yellow robes worn by Papal ministers.
