Was anybody here at the 1981 LSU vs Tulane game in the Dome?

We were getting drilled 41-7 with about two minutes to go in the game. Tulane punched in another touchdown in the endzone where most LSU fans were sitting to make it 48-7. One of the Tulane offensive linemen ran to the back of the endzone while facing our fans. He proceeded to grab his crotch and shoot a double bird to our fans. Did anyone else see that, and do you know who that was?

I was there and on the First Row in the End Zone where he was holding his crouch and shooting the bird and we were all holding our crouches and shooting the bird back.

I was there with my dad. I was only 8 so I might have thought he was telling us that he was #1

You think there is video on the internet of that play? I found a short highlight clip from that game, but not that play. I would love to see that, again.

Was at the game and unfortunately sitting in the Tulane section with a dear friend who was a diehard LSU fan also but received a baseball scholarship to Tulane when LSU at that time didnt even take a look. Needless to say didnt have a very good time. Didnt see the play you were talking about but remember Vince Gibson and the Greenies pulling a fake field goal and scoring another touchdown when the game was well in hand. Waited a year for revenge only to have Gibson and Reggie Reginelli do it to us again in Tiger Stadium . A Tiger team that just 7 days earlier had stomped a mudhole dry against FSU in the famous fog game. Oh well that 's the last time the Greenies got us in football.

Wasn't this game where tiger fans chanted Hilliard and James after?

I remember in 1982 LSU playing Tulane in basketball in the NIT and Tulane fans yelling, "48-7, 48-7..." and LSU fans yelling "Garry James....Garry James..."

LSU lost that game as well

I was in Tiger Band during that game. It was beyond humiliating when the Tulane fans taunted us unmercifully. I don't remember that particular play. Though we were seated in the lower bowl so I may have missed it.

I was sitting a couple of rows behind the LSU bench ( terrible seats, btw, couldn't see much of the on-field action, thankfully). Late in the game, some guy runs down the aisle to the sideline , starts yelling the LSU qb first name (Timmy Byrd?) trying to get his attention. After a couple of minutes of the guy hollering, the qb finally looks up . The instant he does, the yelling guy pulls his shirt open to reveal a Tulane tshirt underneath and gives a double bird. And then TU scores on a fake field goal while leading 41-7.

I was there but I don't recall the incident. That was a rough night. Roch Hontas and the Greenies were unstoppable and we had a few key turnovers that gave them easy scores. I believe that Tulane lost to Penn State in the Liberty Bowl that year.

I was there. Didn't see what you described. I just saw Reginelli whip our butts. I went to law school with him a couple of years later. Very nice guy.

My Sr year at LSU. By far the most miserable feeling I ever had watching an LSU football game. Our team quit that day.

I ran into Vegas Vince & his offensive coordinator ( and family) after the game at the old Tony Moran's Restaurant & both were well on their way to being blitzed. Seeing my LSU shirt, he walked up to me & my hand while smiling & saying "great game". I laughed and asked him if he intentionally ran up the score. He roared "HELL YES". They sat at the bar & got totally wasted. And was fired few yrs later by the uptown crowd.

The loss the next season was much more egregious. In '81, that was 1 of the weakest LSU teams in the history of the program. The '82 team should've been motivated to obliterate Toolame after being embarrassed in the previous season. Instead, the Tigers were still basking in the afterglow of dominating FSU & looking forward to the Orange Bowl.

I was there, but I don't remember that happening. I remember the Tulane bumper stickers after the game:
