PP7 getting paid

quote:

The Arizona Cardinals made their easiest decision of the offseason Monday when they picked up the fifth-year option on cornerback Patrick Peterson.

The move, which was reportedly in the works for about a month, was simply a formality. The fifth-year option is worth about $10 million for the 2015 season.

Nice. That's a pretty good amount of money. Not OT baller, but close.

$10 million for an average Cornerback? Come on, if this guy didn't play for LSU none of you would know who he is.

Well to be fair, he is a littleeee overrated right now. Not much. But a little. And hes still a top 10 CB though. Not saying he sucks AT ALL. His athleticism and size is off the charts for a CB. But on the field hes graded out as the #17 CB in 2011, #16 in his 2nd year, and #15 this past year.

BUT, that said, the biggest difference between Peterson and say a guy like Richard Sherman is that Peterson is still just 23 and Sherman is 26. AND Peterson isnt close to peaking yet. Sherman does have athletic limitations, while Peterson doesnt. The sky is the ceiling for a guy like PP. And hes still young and still improving. Due to his athletic limitations, Sherman does not have that much room to get better.

And PP is a pure man to man sticky cover CB that will guard the opponents best WR. Seattle and Sherman play zone a lot. Sherman is still a great player. But isnt going against the other teams top WR by himself on an island.

He may not be the top CB in the NFL right now, but he is still a top 10 CB and has more room to improve than any of the other guys on that list. In a year or 2, he will be playing at an ELITE level, a level a CB rarely reaches. And thats why hes going to get top $$$ in his next contract. You dont sign a young player to a top $$$ contract based on what he did last year. You give him that contract for what hes going to be in the future.

Great player this is only going to get better. Great person and ambassador for LSU.

Top 10 CB? He's top three, absolutely zero question about that. I'd say it's a toss up between him, Sherman, or Revis.

Athletically, hes #1.

But when it comes to on the field, hes not top 3 right now. And there isnt any proof that shows he is a top 3 CB right now. He will be in a year or 2 though. Hes got the ability, talent and work ethic to get to an ELITE level. His ceiling is so high its ridiculous. But hes not there yet. He will be soon. And when it all comes together for PP, he will be the clear cut #1 CB in the game and playing at 1 of the highest levels we have ever seen.

so there is 0 question that he's better than talib and haden too?

It could easily be argued that Lewis had a better year too

Also, this isn't really a great thing for PP7

PP7 is my favorite player all time from LSU. And I'm a man. I'm 40...

This has to show HB7 that hard work gets $. Hope it keeps him on track.

PP7 has been in the league 3 years and has been invited to 3 pro bowls and voted All-Pro 2x.

He is obviously one of the best in the game.

He didn't say that he wasn't.

However, he did finish 55th in the NFL in NFL Passing Rating against him at 91.3. He's super talented, but he gets beat. He gave up 7 touchdowns.

He's the most athletic corner in the game, he'll get there

PP is good. I would take Keenan Lewis over him though.

2 Pro Bowls as a CB, 1 as a return man.

I said he was a top 10 CB. I just said hes not a top 3 CB.... YET. He will be in a year or 2. His ceiling is the highest out of all CBs in the league, and maybe the highest in the NFL. Hes that big of a freak. And with his work ethic and leadership, I have no doubt in my mind that he will reach that ceiling and become 1 of the best CBs to ever play. But, hes not there yet. Each year he gets closer and closer, he will get there soon.

TigerBait understands what Im saying
But wouldnt this be a good thing for PP, but bad for the Cardinals? After the season, PP would be an unrestricted FA, right? And could be on the open market, which will drive his $$$ up. And, contract $$$ increases a little bit each year, especially if there is another big CB on the market And Sherman will be signing his contract soon, so whatever he gets PP will most likely want more.

Cardinals are going to win a Super Bowl before Peterson and Mathieu are done playing there...if they can find a decent qb.
