What a joke headline.
Holy cow what a complete BS headline. I clicked it fully expecting to hear that this Lieutenant was whining about how she was "set up for failure". Then, you listen to her and she's 100% on point and NEVER, repeat NEVER even implies what this headline says. Yahoo news is the MSNBCTV of the internet.
OK Poli-Board. I know we all like to read thread titles and start typing.
But, my point in this thread really was about egregiously OFF the article headline is from what this poor young lady actually said. I don't even fully agree with her and I'm actually against women in combat. But for frick's sake. She didn't come even CLOSE to implying she was "set up to fail".

Men > Women in combat.
Those asswipes at Yahoo are so mentally brainwashed. How in the frick did they develop THAT headline from what this young lady said?

They know the majority of the population is in tl;dr mode. All they need are headlines.

quote:Yep. But damn. The young lady emphasizes REPEATEDLY that "standards should NOT change" and merely thinks that perhaps the Marines could consider training methods to improve the odds some females can pass. Even then, she's completely non-confrontational about it.

I'm guessing based upon her demeanor in the interview that she's pissing fire at the sight of that headline.

Women shouldn't be allowed in the USMC period. Much less the infantry. They do nothing but spread disease, lower morale, and waste money.

I like that she is pushing for women to be held to a higher standard in training than a lower standard on the test.
But i think the Marines are right in this one. women are biologically different, and while fit women can do way more pushups than some men, she isn't competing against guys like me, she is competing against the best of the best.
There is no training that will get the most fit woman to compete with the most fit men.

quote:Agreed. I suspect that assuming they stick to their guns and refuse to change standards, there will still be a few women who manage to pass. But, they will be very few and far between.

I actually know one in the Army that I think could do it.

quote:I very much doubt they are "brainwashed" at all. They know exactly what they are doing. A catchy headline pushing gender discrimination in our military is sure to draw in the right so that they can berate how hopelessly incorrect the article/headline is. Doing so increases their web traffic and thereby makes their ability to sell ads all the greater.

Congratulations, you just helped yahoo become more financially stable. They played you like a fiddle
On that note, don't feel too bad. They have been making money this way for a very long time because, put simply, it works. It's just too incompetent for users to not comment on, and yahoo knows this. The only thing the media (if you can even consider yahoo a part of the media) is consistently good at is making money. Everything they do is simply in pursuit of this goal.

It's amazing how the media can twist and sensationalize the story or headline to benefit them and/or their agenda, huh? They only care about page reads and selling/ads papers. Some posters on this site could make big money writing headlines for Yahoo.

I think women should be allowed to be in the military, but they should have to pass the exact same physical tests.
Lowering standards is giving special treatment to a certain group...and honestly if the current standards for men are necessary for their safety and survival then women should be held to those standards also.
Lowering their standards only puts them more at risk while in battle. The enemy isn't going to go easier on a woman.

To hell with this lieutenant, first she penned an opinion piece in the Washington Post, and now she is on ABC news. Typical self-promotion, she needs to focus on learning her fricken job. Taxpayers should be outraged.

If it were a male lt. he would be told to STFU with a quickness. Nobody wants to get on this count's arse though because they are afraid of a sexual discrimination charge.

so wait, which policy is mysoginistic and shows the supporters hate women:
1. offering different standards in basic
2. offering the same standards in basic
?

Amen brother. Same training. Same situations. Same mentality.
It's an idea so crazy it just might work.

I don't think women belong in combat. I'm sick of the war on men. I'm okay with women getting paid 50% less (or whatever it is) because they spend 50% of their time at work bitching and back biting to get ahead. I'm sick of feminists and "It's not fair." Life isn't fair. Get over it.
And I'm a woman.
And I'm a woman.
