Attorney General Eric Holder criticized drug sentences doled out under “the old regime” in a video Monday announcing the Obama administration’s “Clemency Project 2014.”

“In 2010, President Obama signed the Fair Sentencing Act reducing unfair disparities in sentences imposed on people for offenses involving different forms of cocaine. But there’s still too many people in federal prison who were sentenced under the old regime and who, as a result, will have to spend far more time in prison than they would if sentenced today for exactly the same crime. This is simply not right,” Holder says in the video

Obama was elected in 2008. If he really cared about this issue, he would have taken care of it a long time ago.

Is it wrong that I really don't have an issue with this... At least on the surface.

If someone is convicted and ordered to serve 10 number of years for a crime and the law is subsequently changed for new offenders to have a maximum of 5, shouldn't the old sentences be reduced to whatever the new max is

Maybe I'm thinking about it to simply

Typical. Obama/Holder looking out for drug dealers and users, but continually sticking it to taxpayers, Christians, and Whitey

On its face, I have absolutely no problem with this.

Our drug laws have been inane for a long time.

I don't like his use of the word "regime" at all. I don't like him at all either.

On the surface, it looks like... it's not fair crack dealers and users have to do more time than blow dealers and users.. so it will be crackheads getting the pardons.

It's common fricking sense IMO

That's like saying slaves before the emancipation proclamation aren't free, but any other Africans coming to the country after are free...

Frankly, that would be my view. It aint the way it is, but it should be.

Otherwise, it presents an absurdity.

I wonder how many will have used weapons in their crimes, only to have plead down for the drug convictions they have. Any chance any violent drug offenders are pardoned?

Now that is one thing that needs to be looked at, which is why I said "On the surface".

I would hope that the AGs/DAs would go through and take a look at the cases prior to just letting them out.
