Because of the SG movement there has been a lot of talk about BR's city limits

so I posted a link to a map which has red lines for the city limits (No, I don't think Obama drew them); but it's interesting to see what is in BR and what is not in BR. The map is quite useful because besides a regular street map, it also has a satellite feature where you can zoom in and literally see the red line running through properties.

Costco and Celtic for instance are in the city now, but parts of the two facilities are out of the city now.
Towne Center is out of the city, but it is an island surrounded by the city.
Of course the Mall of La. is clearly outside of the city, but the thinking is it will be annexed into the city shortly. If so properties around the mall would have to be annexed also.
Times are changing. BR's actual population has been fairly stagnant, but if they begin a program to annex certain areas, the population will begin to jump. Since 1981 the population has only increased from 219 to 230 thousand which is quite anemic for a Southern city.

From the map, Celtic is not in BR. They are definitely in the St. George fire district as well.

Celtic tax breaks are up for renewal at the next metro council meeting.....them wanting annexation last week I'm sure was completely unrelated...hah!

If you look at the map, I believe Celtic owns the old building on airline Hwy.(at the corner of Professional Blvd) that housed a restaurant, as well as properties adjacent to there.
That would clearly be inside the city.
The majority of their buildings would not be in the city as they are on the other side of the red line.
Their owner says they are in and out city too. He definitely wants all in, and I think he should be accommodated.

What do you mean "for a Southern city"?
Comparable cities like Jackson, Birmingham, and Mobile have actually lost residents in that time frame. Just take a look at the numbers for Birmingham... huge losses.

I was thinking most Southern cities were growing sans 1980. I guess many are like BR and never extended their boundaries or becoming more dense.
I stand corrected.

I didn't say they receive credits from EBR, I said they are up for renewal. It's on the metro council agenda.
