Heading out in the morning for my first overnight tuna run with a buddy. Besides beer, bait, rods, the obvious, what items should I bring? What are your, "don't leave home without" overnight boat trip items?

Rain gear, warm clothes (long sleeve t shirt), toothbrush, deodorant, powder for your balls . No matter how hot it is you will get cold/wet at night. And nothing better than clean teeth, deodorant and dry balls at about 4 in the morning. (assuming you're going on center console, if sportfisher, bring extra booze)

Good luck

Freeport or Galvatraz? You left off food unless you are gonna eat your tuna straight outta the gulf. I prefer Subways and beef jerky.

What are the seas looking like? You better bring plenty of cash for fuel since a tuna run over here means running to either Tequila or Boomvang which is about 90 miles + one way.

Also, motion stuff if you get sea sick.

Prepare for it to be colder than the forecast shows. The air might be warm but the water surrounding you isn't up to temp yet. Also wet wipes, deodorant and some Gold Bond. A change of clothes or 2 and a toothbrush can't hurt. Bring plenty of food, beer and water.

Ask your friend if he has a bean bag. If not, take one.
Take some wet wipes and a dry sack with a change of clothes and a fleece.
Also, like MrCoachKlein said, pack a few fish whistles. Make sure you store them in something waterproof.
You will probably want a camera too.

Freeport, headed to Boomvang. Seas are looking good 1-2ft at 4-7 seconds. All fuel, beer, bait, food, etc. is being provided, if not I'd be fishing at the house....

Thanks for all the great ideas guys.

Fish whistle (or stick bait), when lit at the proper time will turn a 1 fish day into a 4 fish day within just a few hits.

Early models were made from brass or ivory.

Pictorial History of Fish Whistles

quote:

I have a magic fishing whistle in my tackle box. It has been there for well over 20 years. Whenever we are fishing and it’s been a while since anyone has gotten a fish, someone says, “Get the fish whistle out.” My 8 year old grandson asked me about it last week while we were fishing. The day had been going ok, but we were in a slump and I decided it was time to blow the fish whistle. I took it out of my tackle box, brought it up to my mouth, and made a great deal of motion as I “blew” into it. It made little more sound than my breath going through it. My grandson said, “Papa. Can fish really hear that?” I told him they sure could. He then asked me if it was like a silent dog whistle because he couldn’t hear it and wondered how the fish could hear it under the water. I said that yes it was like a silent whistle, a silent fish whistle.

You can probably figure it out from Polar Pop's reply.
I'm not sure what the hell Shexter thinks a fish whistle is, but I guess it can't hurt to bring both!
