So I found a cash register about 2 hours ago

It was all beat up laying on the ground as if someone ditched it while running. 2 drawers, one had money in it, the other had a bunch of credit card receipts. The receipts read "Premium Parking" which is the company that owns the garage I park in. So I actually picked up the register and brought it to the parking garage but the office was locked and no one was there. All the windows and the glass was intact. So I call the people, leave the register sitting by the office, and once I saw them show up I pulled out and left. Never gave them my name or number or anything....
Question I'm having, should I have stuck around?
I was actually in a little bit of a rush and had wasted more time doing something I hadn't planned on in the first placed.

And the low level garage workers that park cars may pocket the money, that's on them... plenty of cameras will catch them tho
