Went yesterday and sat at the oyster bar. They had the few old cronies that were sitting there like they ran the place. Then there are the few "up there every second of my life, spend every dime I have, think I have a chance at every girl that works here" guys. Poor environment. Order a dozen oysters, kid grabs a tray of ice, walks in cooler, comes out 30 second later with em shucked. I asked and they're preshucked. Texture was horrible. But they were shucking the ones to chargrill as they cooked em??

I sense an over reaction, I've never heard anyone complain before.... I mean I'm sure there has been a few bad experiences over the hundreds of oysters they do but still.... I go in and sit at the bar all the time and usually friendly people

Dramatic. I sit at the bar periodically. It's a fine bar for a restaurant. I do agree about the raw oysters there though. Pre shucking is a pet peeve and I'm not a big fan of their chargrilled recipe either.

Quit worrying about everybody else at the bar and enjoy yourself.

Why would you not expect the atmosphere to be very much as the other locations?

I know what to expect at Sammy's and I actually like a spot with a bunch of old regulars.

But last time I was in the one in BR, Aaron Nola was in there. At the bar area in BR, people just leave their table and walk around.. mingling with other tables. Well, people who knew the man Nola was with used it as an excuse to go bother them. Random dude sat himself at their table, leaving his family at their table. Worst part is the dude's grandson followed him.. stood directly next to Nola,.. and stared at him the entire time. Barely a foot away from his face. Even as he ate. No parent told the kid to back the hell off, sit down, etc.

It's like.. let your kid go see him for a minute and then tell him to leave him alone.

Nola pretended to get a call and stepped out after a bit. Can't say I blame him.

Anyway, that's just a random story and only involves Sammy's because it happened there

People need get a grip with "celebrities". When they are out in public don't get all fricking crazy with them. I worked in NOLA and the Hollywood crowd was always treated with due deference in public. I saw Ben Stein at the Greenville airport parking lot in SC, turned and asked if he was indeed Ben and he answered yes. I then continued on the way to my car nothing more at all.

I completely agree with you. I was just telling my friend the other day that I think it's incredibly rude to interrupt people's meal or errand. It's one thing to bump into someone or say a quick hello; entirely different to bother them.. especially if they're with someone else in a conversation or something.

I don't go there for oysters anymore

Try Tommy's Fish House on Old Perkins. It is much better.

I think you are splitting hairs between Tommy's, Sammy's and On The Half Shell with oysters and food in General. Bar and Patio are are the only thing that puts Sammy's above the other two.

As for going into a bar with regulars, welcome to anywhere in AP and Baton Rouge (probably anywhere for that matter) It's a social society down here.

On the Half Shell has declined dramatically since they were bought out several years ago imo

Where are the ratings? According to this board it is the worst place ever created, not sure there is a spot below it.
