'Spider-Man' Producers Nix Multiple-Studios Crossover Suggestions

Next month's The Amazing Spider-Man 2 might feature a scene from Fox's X-Men: Days of Future Past, but that doesn't mean Sony's superhero franchise is about to crossover with another Marvel movie. Asked when that might actually happen, producer Avi Arad was blunt, "I think it will take a moment in which we’ve run out of ideas."
Talking to IGN, Arad said "There's so much to tell about Spider-Man. There's so much to tell about the Sinister Six. The relationship between Spider-Man and Venom will bring a whole other world in. [Spider-Man is] unique and we revere that. … We'd rather work really hard to have the right ideas than ... You know, in the toy business we used to make toys glow in the dark when they weren't selling it well, and it gave at least another Christmas. We don't need it yet."
"You know, Spider-Man in the Avengers is a stunt," co-producer Matt Tolmach added. "Stunts can be cool, but it's also a business, and so the other side of the answer is they're owned by different companies. And there's a ton left in Sony's world; there's a lot of business left because there's a lot of story left. … For [Sony] to want to take this character and put it with Marvel and Disney is a huge undertaking and probably, as Avi's saying, isn't necessary until you feel like, 'Wow, we're sort of out of ideas. What should we do?' And we're far from out of ideas."

at the balls of these two to say a crossover would mean they ran out of ideas when they just rebooted Spiderman w/another origin story only 10 years after Spiderman 1 and just 5 after Spiderman 3.
and a at saying a Spiderman crossover with the Avengers would be a stunt when the only reason they are making a Sinister Six flick is b/c they want to copy the idea of the expanded MCU.

Somebody should have thought twice before selling the rights to all of these people

You just seem upset because they're interested in developing one story instead of using 25 super heroes as a crutch.

no, I'm laughing at him being oblivious to the irony of saying a crossover would mean they ran out of ideas when he already rebooted Spiderman with a second origin story not 5 years after the first trilogy ended and the fact that his entire career is based off adapting other peoples ideas into film.
Avi Arad talking about new ideas when literally every single film or tv show he has ever produced or written is based off a toy, comic, or classic fable is a joke.

I still see his point - they're very satisfied with the stories they still have to tell. No need to abandon that.

This came from Avi Arad didn't it? He's a joke, great with kids stuff, but outside of that he's a douche.
I mean, I see his point, but is it just me or does a Carnage movie just not sound interesting?

I think a Carnage movie could be awesome, but it could just as easily be cheesy and awful.

In part, it's a blessing that these properties are separate. Spider-Man is a loner. Marvel would have him in every Avengers movie if they could (which isn't the spirit of the Avengers).
Same thing with Wolverine. They'd have him everywhere, like in the comics.

If they do venom, I want real venom, not mean Eric Foreman.
I always enjoyed the Venom/Spidey conflicts. The reluctant respect the two had for each other, especially when they teamed up. Venom the anti-hero was fun stuff.

Venom is the only reason I ever read Spiderman. Doc Op and Hobgoblin is really classic but second rate comic shite. Venom is the only character I knew of in Spideys universe that had edge.

I'm not big on a crossover but if they want to cash in on Marvel's half billion a movie trend then it may be a good idea.

They should give Spiderman back to Marvel... So much potential and they produced another WHY!?!!?!?!?!!?! movie. Really good scenes mix in with OMG why did you make this? parts.

quote:I don't think that, I think Marvel like to be able to at least name drop Spider-Man or the X-Men. They just don't want to have restrictions or barriers in their movie universe.
