Potential Saints fits that make some Stock Up or Down reports-

UP
CB Jason Verrett, TCU
If Jason Verrett were 5'11" instead of 5'9", he'd be in the running for the No. 2 cornerback spot. Maybe he should be, regardless? Verrett is a physical, fast, attacking cornerback with ball-hawk skills and the tenacity to put a hat on the ball-carrier. He may spend a lot of his time in the slot, but Tyrann Mathieu did as well and was damn near an All-Pro-caliber player in his first season. Verrett is cut from the same cloth and should be a late first-rounder.

DL Dominique Easley, Florida
It's easy to say this now, but were it not for two ACL injuries (to opposite knees), Dominique Easley would be a top-15 talent. Much like Tank Carradine last year, his value will be skewed because of injury, but Easley has incredible ability to penetrate and pressure offenses from the interior. He's a Sheldon Richardson clone when healthy. His stock could fluctuate depending on how teams view his readiness after surgery, but a late first-round grade is in order.

DOWN
WR Kelvin Benjamin, Florida State

Overweight and reportedly out of shape, Kelvin Benjamin has talent, but does he have discipline? He told NFL.com's Goodbread that he's 17 pounds heavier than NFL teams want him and then reportedly pulled out of a workout with a scout because he was too tired, according to Gil Brandt of NFL.com (via Josh Katzowitz of CBS Sports). Benjamin's agent disputed that report, per Brandt (via Pro Football Talk's Michael David Smith)—because what else could he do?—but the bad word is already out there on his client.

CB Marcus Roberson, Florida
Film rechecks are a great time to bring back old notes and double-check an opinion on a player with more film available. For Marcus Roberson, that was a bad thing. He's still a solid second-round talent, but he's very timid against the run and handsy in coverage. Given the choice, I'd rather have his teammate, Jaylen Watkins, at cornerback.

He was in the 1st Rd discussion to start but his stock has settled lower. Too much of a reach for #27. I think more likely gone than available in the 2nd Rd. Would be a solid pick if he was.

I really like his game...He seems like the perfect player that Rob Ryan would want in his defense...Plus a while back there was talk about one of our scouts raving about him.

Are these guys' stock really falling or dropping, or is Matt Miller just catching up to what teams already know? I can see someone like Benjamin scaring off teams by skipping workouts or coming in overweight, but why would Verrett's stock be on the rise right now?

Also, I wrote Matt Miller off when in the last week he ranked Jarvis Jones ahead of Galette, and Morstead as the 21st ranked Punter in the league.

There is no chance Benjamin is even a consideration. A 23 year old sophomore? We never take questionable character guys, especially in the first. Plus he sounds too dumb to grasp the offense.

Matthews from Vandy would be perfect and fits the mold of the team. I wouldn't even mind him in the first. Love Verret too.

I don't see us using picks on guys like Benjamin or Roby. Those are Haslett picks.

Also wouldn't touch a guy in the first with two ACL injuries. Too risky and too much talent to roll the dice.

Wish we could trade back and get something like Matthews,Van Noy,and Desir/Swanson.

I also like Fuller's teammate Antone Exum later in the draft...He plays CB too.

Maybe Benjamin can do a few more bone headed things and really drop. Then we can scoop him up, read him the riot act and have great value.

If Jones doesn't start turning it around he is headed towards bust status. There is no way at this point he is anywhere near Galette.

And I'm not saying Morstead is the best, but if he ain't top 3 then I don't know what kind of twilight zone bs this is.

Yeah this guy doesn't watch any film. He just looks at quick stats like most "experts" do.

"He is more prone to shank punts off the side of his foot than most NFL punters, as evidenced by his 13 boots out of bounds."

Does he not know that some punts are purposefully put out of bounds, especially when kicking to more dangerous guys or on short punts you're trying to keep out of the end zone?

I counted maybe 3 or 4 shanked punts this year for Morstead, not 13.

Yeah, pretty hard to believe anyone can seriously publish that, but then again, it is Bleacher Report.

Punters
3-4 OLBs

And Galette should be grouped with the defensive ends, not OLBs.

Even still, I look at how he has the rankings and they are so arbitrary. He keeps them all pretty close and a ton of guys are tied but he doesn't list them as tied when ranking them(like tied for 14th etc.).

Hell 14-35 are separated by 10 points on a 100 point scale. That's 22 of the 35 guys he ranked all bunched together.

Also, some 3-4 OLBs are pass rush specialists and that should have a higher weight for them, but some are like regular 4-3 OLBs and the pass rush is way too heavily slanted for those guys where the pass coverage is way to under weighted for them.

As to what I said earlier about are these guys rising amd dropping on his board, or teams' board, that was said before I read his article. Now that I've read it, I found my answer.

quote:

Players are moving up and down draft boards by entire days—not just a few spots here and there—nearly five months after the games ended. Unknown quarterbacks ignored by the Senior Bowl are now first-round talents. Game film is seemingly useless, and traits dominate, even if they don't produce results.
Maybe the game film has become useless to the guys at Bleacher Report, but not to the actual scouts.

quote:

I've been watching the top cornerbacks in the draft this week for the NFL Draft 100 series, and Jaylen Watkins continues to stand out.

Exactly what I mean. These players' actual stocks aren't falling or rising, Matt Miller is just starting to watch game tape in April.

I agree, it's a pretty useless and faulty list. He has Haralson also ranked ahead of Galette, when everyone on this board knows that they don't play the same role, making it impossible to grade them on the criteria.
