Worst conversation ever. If you can call it that. This girl was a very important person in my life, like an older sister to me. Then she disappeared for 15 years. And apparently in that time did a lot of drugs and lost her mind. She is in desperate need of psychiatric help. And I have no clue how I can possibly help her. My stomach hurts, my heart is broken, and I can't sleep.

You can't help someone who won't help themselves.

Yeah. I went through my options, and none are viable. I don't think she can help herself though because I don't think she realizes how bad off she is.

Had a similar experience. Me and her were real close in high school almost dated. In college years we stopped talking and she did a lot of drugs kinda started catching up but never saw each other again in person since high school. She now has a kid but idk if she is still on drugs or clean. It does mess you up for a bit but its that persons battle. We can support them and help but ultimately it's up to that person to do the right thing.

Honestly from reading your post the best thing you can do is stay out of that trainwreck. Tell her that she needs help and move along.

Someone can try to make her realize it, thats why they have interventions, but ultimately it comes down to how bad they want it, and sometimes it takes rock bottom to make them realize it, although some don't survive rock bottom. it's all about their own willpower.

I'm sorry to hear that.

There are a lot of good subreddits on Reddit that can help you on this issue and point your friend in the right direction to get help. Its users has a wider base of knowledge than TD could ever have.

Well, the sad part is I've thought for years that she is bipolar. As have other friends. I think the drugs were just a self medication deal. But she's done so many, her family has basically given up on her and attributes all of her problems on the drugs. But, she was absolutely manic tonight. Very disjointed and rapid speech. If she had/would get help for the bipolar disorder, she could get help for the drugs.
