My Pit Bull Story From Last Night

I am coming home from working out of town, and the wife texts me and says the neighbors pit bull puppy broke through the fence and was in our yard. She said she grabbed him and put him back through the hole and nailed the boards back and he did it again.
So I get home, and this little cute demon monster is still there. I put him back through the hole and nail the boards back with reinforced nails (re: a shite ton everywhere I could). Not 10 minutes later, he is back at our backdoor. I went to that part of the fence, and this bastard had broken off the bottom parts of two boards and gotten through.
At this point, I had gone to the neighbor's house several times, but nobody was home. Tried to call animal control to get this thing but they were closed. Called HOA, closed. I didn't want anymore fence damage, so I took him to the front yard and wrapped the chain that he had apparently broken off and was dragging around a tree in neighbor's front yard and put a bowl of water out.
Eventually they came home and took him inside. Haven't spoken to them yet.
WWYD and where did I go wrong? FWIW, when she text me it was a pit and asked what she should do, I asked her if she remembered the code to the gun safe. Apparently, that wasn't an option.

I'm just glad you're alive.

Get the police to shoot the dog.

Me too man.
I've never experienced the power of these animals first hand. He was a sweet pup, but I never thought it was possible for something so small to be so strong. I think he could have taken me, my wife, and my two giant dogs if he felt like it.

I'd try to sign your neighbor up for some classes on things like courtesy and how to be a part of the upper crust of society. Along with this, set them up with a well paying job. Once the dog sees his owners are no longer poor trash he will become as docile as a bunny and no longer a thorn in your side.

What trailer park do you live in?

is it your fence or their fence? get then to pay for the boards the dog broke.

This will happen. A long talk about how to fix this problem permanently will be had as well. It's not cool knowing this thing can just bust through whenever he feels like and be in my yard.

Go to your local feed store and buy an electric fence for livestock. Once he gets hit by that he won't stick his head thru there again.

You did a good job. If the dog would have hurt you or your wife, you'd have had all the right to shoot that bastard.
FYI I told steakb I'll be there may 2nd and have a couple free hours. Beers.

What are the owners like? Decent peeps or morons? Unless they're brainless, what problem would they have with a reasonable request to keep their animal off your property? Either way, just make it clear the dog isn't welcome, period.

I was really worried this story was gonna end with the death of another poster. We have lost too many lately.

How old is this fence? Seems pretty rinky dink.
