He was one of the people rescued from the ship.

Sad news.

They are also reporting arrest warrants for the captain and 2 of his crew members that got out off of the ferry.

Claiming that more could have been done to save lives.

Why would you hang yourself after surviving a tragedy like this?

Survivors guilt.

Why did this thing sink? Too many people on board?

I didn't find any of that info. Regardless, is it mandatory for the captain to go down with his ship?

Imagine how hard it would be as a Vice Principal to lose one of your students to a tragedy.

Now imagine if it was hundreds of them.

Not even close. It had a capacity of like 950 and only had about 450 on it.

Still no reason for suicide, IMO.

I believe the only way I'd off myself is if I were looking down the barrel of a prison sentence the rest of my life.

Guilt.

The overwhelming feeling of having to cope with the question of why you deserved to live when so many others died.

I would imagine it's hard to understand unless you've actually been through something like that.

I would say grief more than honor. I can't imagine his sense of responsibility for the death of so many children.

He would have forever been viewed as a coward in that society, so he made what he considered an honorable decision to kill himself to atone for his sins.

However, his act can also be viewed as cowardly...his attempt to escape criticism and responsibility.

Weird deal.

They believe cargo may have been improperly secured and shifted en route

Survivors guilt is a mother fricker.

I've known 2 people personally that's killed themselves over the years for this very reason.

That's so tragic. He must have been burdened with a lot of guilt and shame.
