Just drove down HWY 90 from Bay St. Louis to Biloxi and saw a few different groups of folks along the way wading with headlamps out off the beach. I never associated this as a good time of year to flounder gig, but unsure what else they could have been doing. Anybody gig this time of year? I've only done it in the fall.

Eta: was too dark to see if they had gigs or not.

Normally now would be a good time but I'm waiting on the water to warm up some.

Did really well last year all along BSL and Waveland beaches. That water is Perfect for gigging when the wind lays down.

ETA: if you have kids get them a couple 3 dollar flashlights, a couple nets and a buckets and they will be occupied for hours.

Good moon for it. It's not a seasonal thing...it's a lunar thing.

Good night for me is 5-6. I am only 10 min away from so I usually go a couple nights a week for no longer than an hour.

the water is usually clear before the shrimp boats start. I used to go in Ocean Springs but only get a few here and there. Full moon I think. the beaches right west of long beach are always active with giggers so i assume they are getting something. Deer island can be really good too.

There is also an infrequent jubliee like tide on occasion where old timers would get 80-100s of flounders on one night. You never hear about it until the day after.

an 18 volt q beam and about three batteries will work great. watch out for damn sting rays

I've been skunked a lot and had a few times where we had so many we had to give 'em away because we were sick of cleaning them. An average night could be 2-6.

I went with my Uncle once before they had a limit. We filled a 110 quart ice chest and a 48 quart, we had 5 people and only gigged 3-4 hours.

Full moon helps. But no moon is still OK.

Wish I could be gigging with you guys BSL to Biloxi.

Calm water (only small wind) is the key to clear 12 - 18" clear water that helps when gigging,IMO.

Wish I was there.
