I was just riding through there and y'all have nothing to be bitching about. You still have a canal separating you from old Gentilly around Dowman and have significantly better roads from just right across the London canal to the west with less property value

I just came all the way from #DaEast on Broad/old90, and the best roads and nicest houses were probably around Franklin.

Props to chilly gentily

You sure this is the right place to be posting this. How many here get it and care?

I have a single female friend who lives there and loves it. Seems to be one of the next hot areas.

That side of town, or your single female friend?

ETA, if you know what I mean...

Some really nice older homes in that area. It's not for me, but I can see it coming back.

Pics of hot single friend or she doesn't exist

I agree in it could be the next hot area. The thing is we have so many fire hot areas right now that it's going to slow the progress up that spread out. I think it will continue to improve no doubt....

Need a big nice grocery slap dab in the middle...

Saw a couple days ago that circle food has opened in the river end of the 7th ward

I'm there two or three times a week for my son's travel soccer team. It gets a lot of flack, but it really isn't terrible.

I love it out here. All of the major streets have either a bike lane or shared lane. With the Walmart and Cane's coming, I see a lot more development coming along that corridor

I like Gentilly. I would live there until I could afford to move uptown or something.

Shhhhhh...no it's not. Too many black people...and poors. Lots of poors.

Seriously though, I'm biased but I would have no qualms about moving to back to Gentilly. I grew up in Gentilly Terrace and my folks still live there (I'm 24 and lily white FWIW). Beautiful, old craftsman-style bungalow. Still structurally sound and not a drop of flood water during Katrina. Middle class, mixed neighborhood with low crime.

There are some rough parts and areas that still need A TON of work (St. Anthony, Ponchartrain Park, north of Prentiss Ave, south of Gentilly Blvd). But I would have absolutely no problem living in Gentilly Terrace, Lake Terrace/Lake Oaks, or the Pratt Park area.

I would love to have one in that strip near Elysian Fields and Gentilly Blvd. We have a Rouse's on the Lakefront that's nice, a Winn Dixie on Chef that's God-awful, and a Canseco's on Elysian Fields that's good for small stuff.

I often find myself driving, quicky, through Gentilly at 3:15a.

Have to say that from what I see in the headlights it isn't too bad.

Almost stop once, I figured that whatever I hit didn't get my license plate though.

Good God, I'm glad you brought this up. I forgot about going in there a few months back until just now. Seriously sometimes you hear people talk about how horrible a store is and they are prolly over exaggerating, but for real for real this may have been the worst all around store I've shopped at.

I had high hopes for that space that used to be the Chinese Food place right before that corner. They split it up and Boost Mobile and a dry cleaning place

There's also an Aio Wireless opening up right in front of the Chicken in a Box place and the Liberty bank is being rebuilt with what looks like some retail spaces included

You're not lying. My uncle was a meat & seafood manager for Winn Dixie and got moved there a couple years ago to shore it up. He has some pretty good stories...mainly of having to tell people that the hot food setup was not a complimentary buffet for shoppers.

I used to occasionally stop in and see him when I was in the neighborhood. I made the mistake of going on the first of the month one time. Took two steps through the sliding door, looked around and walked right back out.

I think he's talking about the old Chinese buffet right across from Burger Orleans and next to the money mart. It used to be a Mickey D's.
