Citizens cannot own guns there.
They average exactly 2 gun related homicides per year.

It's nice to see a nation where the people respect one another instead of murder each other.

Just proves that the criminals do.

There are some very interesting articles/documentaries relating to Japanese criminal reporting and their justice system that really changed my outlook on justice and the integrity of their police force.. If I wasn't on my phone Id do some research and link but it's easily available.

Only 2 homicides a year? Wow!

That is impressive. It's the 2nd lowest in the world...i.e. if you were going to cherry pick ONE country where citizens couldn't own guns it would be THE country to pick if you were tyring to push an agenda.
The Demographics, Population Diversity and it's Borders are also a strong correlations to this number.
Let's not point out the countries that are much more like the USin Population Diversity (25% of japan is "elderly"; 98.5 of their population is native), Geographical location (i.e. BOARDERS WITH DRUG CARTELS), etc AND don't let citizens own guns...that wouldn't serve the OP's purpose.
Just to reciprocate OP...

Here's an artcile about Japanese Welfare and how stringent it is and yet they seem to have some of the lowest poverty levels in the world. Why don't we use their model?

I had no idea. It is pretty interesting. Obviously of the wealthier nations, we have the most liberal gun control laws and our homicide rates are exponentially higher than any other wealthy nation.
There are other factors at play, but to ignore our sky high murder by gun rates is silly. We are like 20 times higher than the next highest wealthy country in the top 20 wealthiest.

They also had essentially zero looting after the tsunami disaster. Do we have that same culture? Absolutely not. We need guns here and it is a guaranteed right to have them.
Japan also does not share an unregulated land border with a cartel filled third world country.

In Singapore, you can get caned for grafitti and spend two years in jail for gay sex.
I'll bet you don't see a lot of grafitti and openly gay stuff in Singapore.
Are those good ideas?

You just going to deflect and make completely irrelevant and unrelately statements?

Japan's Police See No Evil
quote:
Police discourage autopsies that might reveal a higher homicide rate in their jurisdiction, and pressure doctors to attribute unnatural deaths to health reasons, usually heart failure, the group alleges. Odds are, it says, that people are getting away with murder in Japan, a country that officially claims one of the lowest per capita homicide rates in the world.
"You can commit a perfect murder in Japan because the body is not likely to be examined," says Hiromasa Saikawa, a former member of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police security and intelligence division. He says senior police officers are "obsessed with statistics because that's how you get promotions," and strive to reduce the number of criminal cases as much as possible to keep their almost perfect solution rate.

They do what they are told.

They're called swords there imho
But really this idea that a country shouldn't want to lower gun violence because people will still have knives is stupid.
