Picking an episcopalian minister to do anything relating to Christianity is essentially like randomly selecting a liberal arts professor. They're of the same mindset and political temperament.

Of course he isn't the first Christian leader, or even bishop specifically, to be gay. There are undoubtedly many bishops, priests, pastors, etc. who are gay in this country.
He's the first bishop to be openly gay to my knowledge though.
