Just getting around to posting my review of O'Brien's Grille in Gretna. It was my SO's birthday last week and she choose O'Brien's Grille in Gretna.

For Apps we got the pan seared scallops(description from their menu---Fresh sea scallops served with braised pork belly, baby arugula and Plaquemine’s Parish honey glaze). This was really good. The scallops and pork belly pair really well.

For entree, I got the Crispy Gulf Shrimp & Bacon Macaroni (Panko crusted gulf shrimp over creamy macaroni with Nueske’s bacon, carmelized onions and English peas, finished with a roasted tomato glaze). This was really good. Really liked the mac. Mac was really rich and had a good flavor with the bacon. The shrimp were very good also. Large shrimp butterflied without too much breading.

For her entree, she got the Parmesan Crusted Speckle Trout. (Pan fried Grouper served with whipped potatoes, sautéed baby spinach, jumbo lump crabmeat & a Creole buerre blanc ). She said she really enjoyed this also. Had a bite of the trout and it was very good.

For dessert, she got the creme brulee and I got raspberry cheesecake. I really enjoyed mine. I'm a big fan of fresh raspberries and you could really taste the fresh raspberries in mine. Fresh raspberries also surrounded the cheesecake. Here's a pic of hers.

They also did this for her birthday which I thought was really nice.

Overall, O'Briens has always been very good every time I have been. It's really solid even with it being on the westbank (for yall westbank haters ). Next time I will try to take more pics. We got hungry and forgot to take pics of the apps and entrees.

Sounds great.
Would you say this is the best restaurant on the westbank?

I've never been, but heard lots of good things about the place.

There's just something about going to a supposedly "special dinner" in what looks like nothing more than a prefab metal warehouse that's a tough hurdle for me to overcome.

IMO, definitely the best on the westbank. There really isn't many fine dining places on the westbank though so that isn't saying much. To me, it holds its own against a lot of New Orlean's nicer restaurants.

The owner actually did a lot of the work himself. The location and shape of the building is small/odd but it is nice inside. The building is brick actually.

This is a pic of their dining room. off of their facebook page.

I like OBriens, only went for lunches though, never a dinner. Duck quesadillas were on point. That was one of my favorite places on the Westbank. And I think you're right about it being the best fine dining on the westbank.

I get that but it's definitely worth it. The crab boil risotto. oyster and artichoke cheesecake and fried green tomato caprese are all solid apps. I've had their crawfish bisque, which is ok, but one of their soup du jours is a creamy celery, shrimp and artichoke. It's one of the best soups I've ever had. As for entree's I've had the Swordfish, smoked duck breast and crispy shrimp and baked macaroni. All were excellent. I like their parmesan grits too. It's a solid place with a pretty creative chef at times.

Really the only place I can think of that would challenge it is The Red Maple although I don't know if that would be considered "fine" dining.

The Red Maple is dogshit in comparison.

O'Briens is definitely the best on the Wank.

What was the total bill w/ drinks, tax and tip included? Just curious how the price point compares.

Fried fish topped with lump crabmeat and butter sauce. How daring.

I don't think I ever really had a great meal at Red Maple. There was always something that just killed the experience. Something different every time, but always something.

I've never had that there, just a variety of apps and straight up meat.

But don't poopoo this place. There's nothing daring about it, but this place is top notch. It is a very good steakhouse, and easily the best on the wank.

Their sandwiches are really good too.

Not really my style food for the price, but everything sounds pretty good. I'd give it a shot if somebody else was paying.

DW, I think you know the answer to that.

I'm just an accountant now. Don't own anything.
