I was reading a thread on here and a guy said he thought he was overrated. This got me wondering what everyone else on this board thinks of him.

Roy Hibbert is often talked about as one of the best centers in the game, and I myself agree with that. But with how he's playing now, would you call him overrated or would you just say he's in a slump?

Hibbert is a 7'2 behemoth and a terror down low on both sides of the ball on a good night. But since the All-Star break, he's averaging under 5 boards a game. Not good if you're thought to be one of the best game. Slump or what? What do you think?

Season stats:
29.9 MPG
73% FT shooter
averaging just over 6 boards a game
10 PPG with about 2 blocks PG

I find it hard to believe you go into a rebounding slump. Rebounding is a lot about effort and if you're 7'2 getting 5 rpg, I'm convinced you are giving little effort.

He's always been overrated IMO.

Can he just be playing poorly right now without being overrated for the talent he still possesses and has produced in the past?

No, I don't think so.

People want him to be something he is not. His value to the Pacers is huge. He is a defensive anchor. His job is to clog up the lane, protect the rim, and to get garbage buckets.

he has never been an elite athlete, but he plays his role well and has worked very hard each year to improve.

if you really watch him, he has really nice post moves. When he forces the issue he can score. Look at him in the playoffs last year. Its not that he was playing out of his mind, but they were feeding him and letting him go to work.

he is a team player like Noah and Gasol.

Once again look at the team stats. The Pacers are one of the best rebounding team in the league. At there best everyone chips in.

Hibbert
West
Lance
George
Hill

They all crash the boards. To be fair he is not an elite rebounder, but once again he doesn't have to shoulder it all.

No. I'm not over-reactionary. Very important piece on a top 5 team in the NBA.

That's more of a commentary on the scarcity of quality centers in the league.

He hasn't put up big numbers at any stage of his career. He is what he is

He's overrated bc of what he does against the Heat in the playoffs.

Every year he is average during the season. Then goes off in the playoffs vs smaller teams and the media annoints him as the next big center.

Then the next season begins and he is average again.

Rinse and Repeat.

I wouldn't say he is too much different than Tiago Splitter or Omer Asik.

Not even factoring in this past month that he has all but quit on the team, I'd say he's a great defender, top 2-3 in the game for centers.

But he is overrated offensively. He's a subpar offensive player as a center, always has been.

Hugely. Makes way, way too much money to still be such a whiney head case that semi-annually brings down his entire team.

Hibbert is very overrated.

7'2 and averages 6 rebounds a game?

Gasol is the best center in the NBA. He's the opposite of Hibbert. He's very underrated

Yes he's over rated but I think that says more about the league today than it does about him. He'll still give the Heat fits in the playoffs.

Yes, but he's still good.
