Forest Gump Debate: Did Forest Gump Have a Good Life?

I was talking with a buddy earlier and we strongly disagreed on whether Forest Gump had "a good life." Thoughts?
I argued he did. He was able to live a remarkable life. He was able to be present at some of the more important events in the past 50 years. He was surrounded by people who loved and cared for him. He married the dream girl and despite his intelligence, he'll probably end up being a wonderful father. He's financially successful too.
My buddy sees Forest Gump's life as miserable. The way he sees it, Forest Gump's intelligence is a terrible affliction. His best friend and wife die well before their time and he loses his mother in before he is ready. He has no hopes and dreams that he can fulfill and strive for. A used car analogy was used.
Two of those arguments are invalid. He doesn't understand the importance of the events he has taken part in and he also doesn't realize "what he is missing out in."

Watched it yesterday. I thought about it as well. I think he did. Although losing everyone he loved sucked, he ended up having his son to remind him of them.

He's better off without Jenny. She was a bitch who just used him for his money. He may have lost Bubba, but he still has Lt Dan as his buddy and business partner. He's got a good life.

Hell yes. He had a good life. He overcame his handicaps. He was successful athletically, militarily, financially and, in the long run romantically and family wise.
And hell, he found joy and contentment in little things like mowing the fields and running.
So, I'd argue he had a very good life.

Stupid is as stupid does. His intelligence was never much of an issue for forest.
Those are both sad but he found a new friend in Lt. Dan. and Jenny died yes, but gave him a son.
He had a great life and is nothing but happy at the end of that movie.

I'm usually a pessimist, but I think Forrest had a good life and I always saw Forrest Gump as an uplifting movie. It showed the ups and downs of life: for every bad thing that happened to him, something good happened next. He seemed happy and content with his existence, which kind of makes you feel like you should be happy with what you get too.

I would imagine Forrest would say he had a great life if you asked him.
He may not have the appreciation a normal person would have for the same life... But he say at a bus stop and told anyone who would listen about his life.

They don't say "ignorance is bliss" for no reason.

Some people may see it that way, but i watch it probably like once a month and it never gets old for me.
