My guess after negotiated discount with insurance company is $1500, which will be applied towards your outrageously high deductible so you get to pay all of that yourself. Congrats!

Glad that bebe seems to be doing well though.

No insurance? $9,500
with insurance? insurance company would pay $2750
with insurance and deductible? You will pay up to $3000

W/ insurance

Why is the baby hospitalized? And overnight at that?

I never knew croup could be that bad. Great--now one more thing I will worry about.

I spent 5 hours in ER last year for a kidney stone. MRI, pain meds ( ), usual workup.

Bill? $16,000

Insurance negotiated it down to about $5000 +/-

I was responsible for about $1000, as I had not yet met my deductible (which was $1500).

Because he was having trouble breathing (bad) and it was late Sunday and I assume hospitals are all about giving me the business. The nurse initially said two nights. I mean, I can give treatments just like they can...

Don't get me wrong, whatever it is is worth it for my kid... Just sayin, ranters gonna rant... Thx obama...

I take care of croup babies ALL THE TIME at work.

There is usually at least one croup kid on the floor at work during respiratory season. We give them IV fluids, steroids, breathing treatments(if they help), oxygen (if needed), Tylenol if they are running fevers and keep them for a day or two.

They will also do xrays and labs (make sure it's not RSV or flu or the several other respiratory viruses running rampant).

Yeah but you don't have a pulse oximeter that can monitor if the child's oxygen saturations are dropping to dangerous levels. They are being hospitalized so that they are monitored until docs know the child is not having severe difficulty breathing and is stable enough for discharge.

Still could be a couple days. It really just depends on how your child was doing and the severity of the symptoms really.

Trust me though....they won't keep him longer than they have to.
