Guy named Clay Blankenship. Nice guy and has put me on a bunch of fish. I have gone out with him 4 or 5 times and have always had fun. He fishes out of Zekes.

When are you going? If during summertime, fishing down there can be tough. Lots of people chartering inshore trips. Clay will ussually try and stick to kings or spanish. We have caught several decent reds under the bridge during the summer months but it can be hard. Late fall fishing around there is great.

Mo runs a few boats out of his shop "Mo Fishin Bait & Tackle".

We went out with them in August of 2012 and fished the bridge hard but caught nothing but blues. Good time, but its just tough fishing the pass.

I would suggest calling around the Fort Morgan area for a Mobile Bay charter, thats where the reds were last August. Google "Dixey Bar Redfish" and pick up the phone after you pick your jaw up off of the floor.

That 30 minute drive was a world of difference, and I was just surf fishing.

Always done real well with the flounder and mangroves on that man-made reef.

I should have specified, catching redfish in the pass seems pretty tough. We first went North with zero luck, then hugged the bridge the rest of the morning with about 10 other boats, horsing in blues. The wind was whipping, all of the charters going out were turning around at the end of the jetties and cancelling trips.

In 2011 we caught quite a few kings out just directly south of the bridge working our way back into the pass.

The one time I paid for an inshore charter there the guide was honest with me... said its really not worth it to chase reds in the pass. I immediately told him to just put us on what was biting, and he did. I imagine most of the guides around there know where to catch fish, just a matter of not insisting on anything in particular.

True. Looking back, I wish I would have gone to Mobile Bay since it was my first inshore charter.

Had to keep it in the pass due to getting married on that same day, under strict guidelines to "not be late and not have sunburn" .

I don't think you would have fared all that much better tbh, as this guide put it, 'yall spoiled down there.' It's been said many times on here, but it really is best to do your drinking in Orange Beach and your fishing in Venice. If you insist on fishing anywhere else, its best to just go with the flow and not be set on catching any certain species.

This guy is absolutely the best guide on Mobile Bay.

Ask any of the locals. He's the best.

Without a doubt. Spring and fall are best on the bay. Summer gets tough, but you can find triple tail in July/August.
