He should get his money and the police that assaulted him should have to pay it. Until they are held financially accountable stuff like this will never stop.

Hopefully the jury is astros fans, Backe was one of the most exciting players to watch, he could pitch and hit. He helped the astros make the world series in 05!

Sounds like he and others should get paid.

Could you imagine the memory of your wedding day being marred by an incident like that?

Could you imagine your wedding day getting so out of hand that 30 police officers had to respond to control it?

Didn't read everything.. Why did the police show up?

details are scanty, but from the article:
quote:
Backe and 11 others say they were brutally beaten when more than 30 Galveston police officers burst into a wedding party at the H2O outdoor bar. Police say the accusations are exaggerated and any force used was justified

Yeah that I read. What I didn't read is why they showed to begin with.

It's Galveston and they didn't have anything better to do is my guess.
Once again, it's Galveston.

I googled and found this:
LINK
It seems to have started over a 19 year old drinking alcohol at the party.
My bias is this is just another example of the present day police culture. They (the police) operate in the mindset of using force to fix problems and preferable overwhelming force so you can enjoy kicking someone's arse if they resist in any fashion.

It seems to have started over a 19 year old drinking alcohol at the party.
quote:
O'Balle "was, in violation of Texas law, permitted to consume alcoholic beverages to the point of becoming highly intoxicated," police said. O'Balle's attempts to take beer from the convention center was also in violation of the law, authorities said.
"This comprehensive review has revealed that this incident, and the resulting arrests, was instigated by the actions of a single individual. This individual exercised extremely poor judgment and, if he had been properly supervised by his parents and not allowed to violate the law, this incident likely could have been avoided in its entirety," police said in a news release announcing the disciplinary action.
Under Texas law, a minor can consume alcohol "if they are in the visible presence of, and have the consent of their adult parent, legal guardian or spouse."
Police said O'Balle became "belligerent" when an officer confronted him and that he became "aggressive toward and noncompliant with" the officer. More officers showed up and others with the wedding party interfered to keep officers from arresting O'Balle, who threw punches at the officers, police said.

None of us were at the wedding but just reading that press release was somewhat comical.
They tried really hard to justify it with a lot of obscure wording.

So they essentially sent the swat because a college kid was drinking

That's exactly what I got from that.
And that was their version...

Hope he gets paid. Galveston cops are horrible and have a bad reputation for brutality

This thread is funny.
I have no clue what happened but it's funny seeing everyone blindly believe one side of the story.
