I only know two things about commuter cars (ie cars that are supposed to get good fuel mileage). I know I don't want one, and I know I need to get one. I have a pretty long drive to work and doing it in my truck daily just isn't going to happen.

Are there any of those fuel sipping ultra reliable cars out there that are a wee bit of fun to drive and don't look like a turd? I have no experience with cars other than my ex-girlfriends V6 toyota and a few V8 tire eaters. Pretty much my old requirements are that it have a manual transmission and get good fuel mileage for a long time.

Any experience is appreciated

Popular Mechanics got 39mpg out of the New Corvette on the Interstate (It has a 3.49:1 final drive gear ratio)

So that is my option.

That's what will probably happen. I'm pretty ignorant to the other options out there though.

A new civic or accord. A Toyota Camry. An Altima. All good cars with good mpg.
I've decided to get a supermoto bike in the near future for my commute. It's only about a 20 minute drive with no interstate so I don't need a fast bike. And on rainy days I'll just drive my truck. That's a cheap way to do it. But you have to be comfortable driving a motorcycle.

I was looking at that one on the ford website.

Problem is I don't really know what I'm looking at. I know trucks.

The Elio. Not in production yet. Supposed to be 86 mpg for under 10k.

Don't care. 99.99% of the time it will be just me and some work stuff in there.

My main concerns are fuel mileage, reliability, fun to drive, not look like a dweeb, in that order.

I don't know many people who put high miles on a car so I don't have anybody to consult about these things. I'll be putting somewhere around 40k a year on whatever I get.
