Next to Nicholas Cage, Costners name gets thrown around a lot as a terrible actor. Let's look at his Resume
The 80s had The Untouchables, Bull Durham, Field of Dreams, Revenge. The 90s had Dances with Wolves, which he won an Oscar for, Robin Hood, JFK, A Perfect World, Tin Cup, The Bodyguard.

What's the worst movie on his list, Waterworld? I mean, Al Pacino made Jack and Jill. Yes he wasn't exactly Oscar worthy in Robin Hood, but that movie made $400 million on a $45 million budget. I even liked the Postman. And his sports movies are some of the best ever made.

Call me crazy, but it's hard for me to hate on a guy that gave this scene to us.

He won an Oscar for directing not acting. I've never been a big fan. The only movies I like of his are:

Field of Dreams
The Untouchables
Robin Hood
and maybe Tin Cup

And for the record Nicholas Cage >>> Kevin Costner

Nick Cage's Oscar winning/nominated performances are better than anything Costner's ever done. Am I lying?

So are you going to at least name the Costner movie you're referring to so I can laugh or are you just going to leave it at that?

I wouldn't go that far. I actually really like both, and in terms of this question:

Jealousy. Costner the kind of "cool without trying" guy, and that gets him in the negative. Plus, he's a fairly grounded person in a not so grounded industry, he sticks out for the "wrong" reasons. In short, relative to the culture he's in, he's kind of boring. (I think that's admirable, but that's me).

But Cage is a better actor overall. He's the opposite of Costner pretty much. Where Costner is calm, cool and collected, Cage is borderline schizophrenic. As actors they work in vastly different roles. Cage is often great and often terrible. Costner is always just solid. Cage's peak performances are higher, but his lows are certainly lower to boot.

I like him. He is not the greatest, but is an "every man" type of actor who anyone can relate to.

I hated Water World but loved Dances with Wolves. I hated that he had no accent in RH, but his country accent in many films is pretty good.

He is a great director.

Personally, I like Raising Arizona better than both of those movies. But that's just personal preference as I don't think it's objectively better than those two by any means.

Other Costner movies I enjoy: No Way Out & Open Range, I do not hate Cage and love some of his movies, not sure he is any better, would say they are pretty close.

I don't get the hate for The Postman, one of my favorite movies.

The man can't change his accent or persona to save his life. There is no range to speak of. Very little variety of facial expression.

He's the Nickelback of Hollywood leading men.

And that's where it all comes down to opinion. I personally like field of dreams better. But like I said I like both of them. I just think Costner is better.
