What's going on here? The sign they put up last Fall says the grocery store is opening Fall 2014. They put the building pad in last December and nothing has happened since.
What gives? Parish permitting or developer funds?

It's so clean on the northshore.

Most of it. Tangipahoa and Slidell are landfills.

I think it is some permitting stuff. I knew the contract for building had already been signed for the construction company and the tenants. I think the hold up might be the traffic issues perhaps. They were supposed to put in a round a bout at the intersection.

I know Ralph's is good, but I'd rather y'all have had a rouses settin up shop.

They need turn lanes there for sure.

I've heard the state is holding up the roundabout for some reason. St Tammany also has live oak nazis that out road blocks up any chance they get.

Have there been any updates on the shopping center development or planned road construction? We're moving out that way and would love to see some progress...Still haven't seen any change and it's been well over a year now.

The last I heard, the owner of the grocery store and or development wasn't starting construction until the state approved the DOTD roundabout at the intersection and started their construction. The idea here was to have both projects completed at the same time so that the grocery store did not lose money during construction. That was all supposed to occur late August of 2014 when school started back.
I did see that they recently bush hogged the parcel a couple of weeks back. I go through that intersection every day.

I'm waiting to hear back from my parish councilman regarding the road construction. They were supposed to bid out the work 2 years ago (the plans have been done for at least 6-7 years; I saw them with my own eyes that long ago).
As far as Ralph's is concerned it is no longer going there. No clue what the plan is now for that development but it's success/progress will definitely be tied to the improvements of that intersection

ETA: This isn't Madisonville

That is disheartening to hear.

Technically you are right. The way they draw the Covington lines is a little strange around there. All those businesses are Covington addresses but literally everything else around it is Madisonville so I can see why someone would say that

My Uncle Harry used to get his booze on Bootlegger Road (LA 1085) during Prohibition. I truly love that area and hate to see it become overdeveloped.

From Parish rep:
quote:
I am sorry this is taking so long. As I have told you, this is out of my or the Parish's control. They are both state highways, so they have pushed the project back so many times, it is ridiculous.
I spoke to the DOTD lady on December 4th, who said that everything is ready for the job to be "let" in January or February. That means the actual work should begin in the Spring. Keep your fingers crossed. Call or email your state representative and senator to see if they can put pressure to keep this on schedule.
I will stay on top of it.

Madisonville isn't the heaven you paint it to be.

The post office in Madisonville delivers outside of town limits northward to the extent of the power lines. North of the power lines is covered by the post office in Covington.
