Never owned a boat before, I mean I can drive one, but that is about the extent of my knowledge. Any advise for getting a used one would be appreciated.

dude, you're gonna get so much shite for posting this here....

But, I'll answer. What do you plan on doing on the boat? This will help determine the type.

Best two days of your life: The day you get a boat, and the day you sell it.

Make sure the captain's seat has enough space between you and the helm. Nothing better than getting a bj while commandeering a piece of shite used boat.

Try to determine the real reason the current owner wants to sell it.

RA'd for move, planning on using it in California for fishing and skiing in the lakes. May take it to the bay once a year.

Take a friend who owns a boat. If you don't have one offer to pay a boat mechanic to help you pick one.

I assume you are talking about a small boat. If not you need to pay a surveyor

Such an overused sentiment. I enjoy the hell out of my boat. Of course, it's on a lift in a boathouse in front of a lake house, so I don't deal with trailering it, storing it, taking it in or out, or paying fees to the state to use the ramp/enter the lake, and when I'm hot or tired I just pull up and go inside the house - I wouldn't recommend boat ownership otherwise.

Just keep in mind that they want to sell more than you want to buy.
