I've searched and found some decent information but I'd like to ask a little more directly. I'm obviously a novice, so please bear with me...

Giving my buddy the spice/seasonings, etc(among other shite) for a crawfish boil as an engagement gift.

What are the basics? Not talking about lemons, sausage, corn, etc. Is it as simple as just buying a Zatarains bag? I'd like to get him some decent stuff....

where do you live, and where does your friend live ?

Reason for asking, I travel the entire State on business for my real job (voc rehab counselor). As a secondary job to pay the bills, I have my own line of seasonings that I could hook you up with if interested.

I can hand deliver / drop off if I'm passing thru your neck of the woods. Yesterday I was in Stonewall, Shreveport, Minden, W Monroe, and Columbia dealing with injured workers. I live in Laffy / Youngsville.

This is going to sound like a dick statement, but

You are giving a good buddy salt and pepper as an engagement gift.

Maybe reach for something a little more permanent.

I would go with Zatarins Pro boil(64 oz). One small liquid crab boil. The biggest things to remember as newbie. 1. Clean your crawfish!!
2. Taste

put crawfish in an ice chest rinse with water over and over until the water is clear.
Soak crawish for at least 15 minutes. start tasting every 3 minutes until you like them

That's why I included, "(among other shite)"

This is essentially just a supplemental present.

Bags of Zats have to be multiple in numbers for any boil along with a certain amount of liquid to boot, as it has a bit more of arse kick in nature of what it imparts to the seasoning of the bugs.

Certainly you meant "rinse them in."

If this is truly an "engagement" gift then I'd say it is fine. Now a wedding present might be different. We sure didn't receive any engagement presents when we got engaged back in the day.
