NFL Network's Albert Breer reports Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel scored a 32 on the Wonderlic exam, while Louisville's Teddy Bridgewater scored a 20. Blake Bortles scored 28. There is no correlation between Wonderlic scores and NFL success, and we're not even convinced they factor much into NFL teams' evaluations anymore, but people always seem to be interested in them. For some perspective, Andrew Luck scored a 37 before the 2012 draft. Geno Smith scored a 24 last year. Blaine Gabbert scored 42. Christian Ponder scored 35. Colin Kaepernick scored 37, and Ben Roethlisberger scored a 25.

Gabbert with a 42 doesn't do much for the utility of the test. Didn't Marino score something terrible?

FWIW I'm surprised Ben scored a 25. He looks like he'd have trouble opening a box of cereal.

So Teddy Bridgewater is retarded?

He may be but this test doesn't prove it either way.

I remember some ESPN analyst saying the rule of thumb for quarterback success was 24/25/60 -- start 24 games or more in college, score a 25 or above on the Wonderlic and complete 60 percent or more of your passes in college. There were no guarantees about these things (look at Gabbert's Wonderlic) but if you had those numbers, teams felt like you weren't a gamble. It was obvious you had a good bit of game experience, were smart enough to learn a playbook and were an accurate passer.

Me taking it blindfolded, trying to use my penis to hold the pencil could do better than Mo.

Of course it didn't affect his draft status much.

That was Bill Parcells very outdated rule of thumb

It probably doesn't determine NFL success, but I'm fairly certain horrible scores mean you're retarded.

I assume that you made this comment because you are not aware of what the wonderlic results mean and not because you're retarded.

20 is considered average intelligence.

quote:

The 12-minute test measures cognitive ability, with a score of 20 indicating “average” intelligence.
