I keep seeing threads and websites advertised for the split, but when is the actual vote? November?

They have the signatures, trying to leverage them for the school district before calling for the outright split

When the petition drive started the organizers said the vote was going to be last Saturday, April 5.

Split off? Don't you have to first be a part of something to split from it?

Two separate shitshows can't get here soon enough.

There is no vote scheduled. They have to get signatures from 25% of the area, so around 18,000, before they can hold a vote. Back in November they claimed to be "almost halfway" to the total and said that they had averaged around 1000 signatures per week. The campaign was around 8 weeks old at that point, so people estimated that meant that they had about 8000 signatures.

Since then, they haven't been stating how many signatures they have. Presumably their pace slowed down after November, or else they would have way more than the necessary signatures by now.

A bill passed today that puts a 180 day time limit on how long a group has to gather signatures to vote for incorporation. The author of the bill claims that it will only apply to efforts that start in the future and so the St. George movement would be exempt. But, St. George proponents still were screaming and yelling that the bill was "an effort to deny your right to vote on St. George" and that they believe it could apply to efforts already in progress. So it's pretty clear that they don't have the necessary signatures yet and they feel that half a year isn't enough time to collect signatures.

Right. That's why things are going so well in Baton Rouge now. All those idiots in charge like IBM and the Water District...

Isn't Kip Holden running interference in the legislature trying to get some laws passed that will stop the effort in its tracks?

It's actually being called the Water Campus. 27 acre state of the art research development. Will totally transform that area north of campus.

The vote is only symbolic, St. George is a state of mind. You just don't understand.

Care to expound upon this? If they have the signatures, what do they stand to gain keeping it a secret?
