BATON ROUGE – LSU Athletics generated $397.5 million in new sales to Baton Rouge area firms, including $119.7 million in new household earnings, in 2012 according to an updated study by former LSU economics professor Dr. Loren C. Scott.

Scott’s study shows that LSU Athletics has an impact of $397.5 million in new sales in the Baton Rouge area and is responsible for 3,948 jobs for Baton Rouge area residents. LSU Athletics also generates $2.8 million in new sales taxes for local governments.

Scott said that because of LSU sporting events, civic groups in the Baton Rouge area, which assist in running the concession stands at the different venue on campus, pocketed $815,000 in 2012.

Shows why so many BR area merchants get upset about neutral site home games like the upcoming one in Houston. LSU makes bank, but BR misses out.

So new local sales tax is less than 1% of new sales revenues. Nice. Way to get your share BR.

I wonder if this includes the money they got off DUI checkpoints and MIP police on game days.

I have NEVER, heard ANY Baton Rouge merchant or their supposed representative...B.R. chamber of commerce, even raise a peep about their disdain for OOC away games !
Very strange...is B.R. business afraid of Joe A. ? If so, they've got to be the ONLY entity with such a malady !

Wow, what a rantard take.
Seems to me it shows the general positive affect of the football team on the local, and in turn, LA economy.
Good coaches, good teams, good return on your investment.

Watch the 30 for 30 The U about Miami. When they were dominant in 80's and early 90's it was nothing but a positive impact for their local economy.

LSU should build a basketball arena that actually looks good and matches campus.

It reminds me of the painting in Bogie's with LSU/Baton Rouge landmarks alongside one another. Can't find it anywhere on the internet.
