All my fishing so far has been saltwater but I recently moved to NW Arkansas so I need to get freshwater figured out. I'm looking to target bass and crappie from the shore. What are some crank baits, spinners etc that you have found work really well? I'm going to a bait shop tomorrow that I've heard a lot about so I need to make a good shopping list.

TIA

Basically all I have in the tackle box. I will add lizards though.

ETA: Get sacalait jigs also. When you find them, it's a good time.

This is THE only bait my dad uses. Someone could drop him off in the Mojave desert and that dude will whip out a fricking junebug lizard and catch a fish.

My go-to is watermelon/red senko.

OP, what body/bodiesof water will you be fishing?

My brother lives up there on the White River and fishes Beaver Lake and the White daily. Dont forget about the different species up there such as stripers, walleye and smallmouth.

They fish shad raps quite a bit up there along with wiggle warts and small hair jigs.

I'm seeing more plastics where you rig a hook through than I expected, good stuff. That's typically fished more on the bottom though, right? Would I have problems getting snagged a lot since I'm fishing from the shore?

Go to Southtown Sporting Goods on N College in Fayettenam and they will hook you up.

if you fish with crankbaits or rattletraps you pretty much need a boat. stick with small chartreuse &/or white spinnerbaits, white buzzbaits, topwater frogs, and tx rigged worms.

if you've never fished with a tx rigged worm though (or a weightless one even, really anything with the hook buried in the bait) be prepared for a steep learning curve. if i had one quick piece of advice for it, i'd say this: never lose contact with the bait. if you don't have a taut line, you can't feel the fish bite, and if you can't feel the fish bite you can't set the hook. if the hook is buried you'll almost never 'accidentally' catch a fish.

It's the Fort Smith area so the Arkansas River, Lee Creek and a place called White Oak Park (just east of Mulberry) that is apparently crappie heaven.

At some point I'll make a trip to Bull Shoals Lake but not too often. I may even get a fly set and go to the White and Buffalo Rivers but mostly I'll stay near Fort Smith.

I actually some times swim my lizards. Basically cast out and slow steady retrieve with rod tip high.
