Spring allergy shots

Who here gets allergy shot treatment for their spring time allergies? I have yet to be tested for Which pollens get to me but it's definitely trees as opposed to grass.
Just curious how much the treatments cost, how they work (# of shots per month, etc) and do you ever gain permanent immunity to allergies or is it a lifelong process?
Finally determined this year that I either need to see a real doctor every year for prescriptions, or I need to go the shot method. This shite gives me fits. Gonna ride out this season od'ing on OTC stuff but want to think forward to next spring.

the allergy doc tried to get me to take these. he said it was like 1 shot a week for 2-3 years.

i get them.. one in each arm weekly.
But FYI they wont do any good for you "this spring" it will take 6-8 months to start to build immunity. You will be tested first by skin pricking you back to find out what your allergic to. Then they will order your vials and you start. But dont expect to see results right away, its a process.. but will do wonders for you in the long run. i went from taking steroids 4-6 times a year for allergies to maybe once a year. Can tell a worlds difference, just takes some time at firsy but worth it

each vial is roughly $200-300, not sure on shot cost i guess depends on clinic. Check with your insurance on how much it pays. also you asked about will it build complete immunity of will this be lifelong. You will start out with a shot weekly, then after 8-12 months move to every other week. Then after another 8-12 months move to once a month. Your doctor will see how you do.. after a few years you will probably be pulled off them if you have been improved alot to see how your bodies immuinity has held up. But be aware, our allergies change all the time. i took these things for 12-14 years as a child and got better and doctor pulled me off them. i was perfectly fine for 8-10yrs then i have been on them now for 3 years again.. got tested and all kind of different plant allergies

Good info. My SO has really awful spring allergies and is considering doing this in the future. If we get married and my health insurance will cover it, I think it would be a good investment

yes it works.. just be patient the first 6-8 months. then before you know it your not having near as many problems. Well worth it to me

Like I said- I only get it mid-March to early May every year, so I'm willing to wait til after the season to start anything.

They wanted me to do 2 shots a week at the docs office for 1 year, and then 1 shot a week at his office for 3 years.
I also had to wait there for 30 minutes after each shot AND carry an epipen around in case I had a reaction to the shot.

i have to waith 30 mins but not carry an epi. but the shots are well worth not fighting allergies for months on end

I get allergy shots for pollen and dust allergies. First off it is not something that you get seasonally. It is a 3-5 year process where they inject you with small doses of what you are allergic to. At first you get a shot once a week, then every other week, then once a month. I am in the phase where I am getting shots every two weeks. Insurance covers the shots. All I pay is 5 bucks every time I get a shot.
