In your best guess estimate as your life will progress, do you think you will pass down more to your kids than you may receive, or have already received, from your parents?

Will you blow through whatever you'll have, think taxes will be too high, won't get SS benefits, or do you think you'll earn plenty of disposable income and be prudent and save a major portion?

For my informal survey, also provide your age bracket.

For me, I think and hope I will give more to my kids than I may get from my folks, but I know for a fact, I will have to work way more years than they did. And I'm in my late 40's.

I hope so.

ETA: I would have to make some serious cash to pass up the ole man.

Scruffy is 25 and he hopes to one day be as successful as his old man.

Papa Scruffy is damn business savvy and although Scruffy may have a higher paying job earlier in life, it'll be damn tough to catch him.

Scruffy isn't thinking too much about how much he'll leave to any future kids though.

Lots of folks in that age range support their parent(s) still alive.

Yes just like my dad did, and his dad did before him. Family money shouldn't be spent, it should be passed on.

I pray I will more than I will get from my parents. Currently I stand to inherit 0.00 from both parents, so it shouldn't be hard to top that.

I think I'll leave more than I get. My Dad has said multiple times that he is going to spend it all on his way out. It's his money and I can't blame him. It's his and he can do what he wants with it. I'm in no way depending on an inheritance. If I get one then it will just be icing on the cake.

I have no idea how much I'll inherit. Parents in early 50s and still working.

I'm 30. If you would have asked me 5 years ago I would have said that I would inherit more than my future children. A lot can happen in 5 years though, and that statement is now reversed. Then again, a lot can change in the next 5 years, so who the heck knows?

I am 45. I will get nothing in inheritance. My kids are both at LSU but it has been instilled in them to make their own way in life. Anything passed down should be an unexpected bonus and not a Plan "B".

To answer your question, I will pass down more than the 0 I will get. I thinks each generation feels like they should up the ante.

I likely will. I'm 32 and semi-obsessed with saving and investing for an early, very comfortable retirement. In order to be able to do that, I'll have to build up a really nice nest egg and hopefully primarily live off of returns so that my money lasts my entire lifetime. My kids will likely inherit a fairly large portion of my retirement nest egg.

I'll get about 35 acres of land from my folks, but I'm not planning on much cash.
