Knife as a gift? What kind?

Looking to get my son a nice knife for his 13th birthday. Something he can use, but also a keepsake. We don't hunt, but he's an outdoorsy kid so it would get some use. Anyone have some good suggestions? TIA.

Brad Zinker if you google, you'll find some. It's art and something to be handed down for generations. The Patek Phillipe of knives IMO.

Benchmade Mini Griptillian.
No tonto blade or half serrated blade bs.
I also like my Kershaw Leak.

I have a couple Kershaws, really like em. Looking for functional and unique.

old case makes a great gift.
But any ole top name brands these days are good and very common.

The desire for him to have a unique knife may very well change the recommendations. Spyderco and Benchmade make some great knives, but the models I'd recommend are hardly unique. How much are you looking to spend? Is a custom or semi-custom knife doable? Are you looking for a more classic, timeless style?
If you're not looking to spend a lot, Case makes some knives that have a classic look, that probably will never go out of style. They're not really my thing, but they may be what you're looking for.

Knifeworks is one of the best retailers out there, and as you can see, they have a huge selection of Case Knives.

Probably a more classic look. I'll check out the brands named here. Like I said, probably $200 but would go more if it was something special.

Can't go wrong with benchmade or sypderco.

I would look for a fixed blade with either a wooden or stacked leather grip. Classic style that he can keep forever and I think a sheath knife is much less likely to be mispalced than a pocket knife.
You dont have to go real exspensive either, I have a CASE similair to this one that my Dad gave me around that age and it is still one of my favorite knives.

I would not spend $200 on a knife for my 13 year old son. That thing will get lost in a heartbeat. Why not wait until he's older to spend that kind of money and just get him a $30 pocket knife from academy/bass pro now.
