My little bro is considering going this route as a career and just wanted to see if there's anyone with experience. Pros and cons etc. thanks.

He'll need to either get his master's degree in Geology or get a BS in Geol and then a BS in Petroleum

I'd suggest the BS in both

The ones I work with have done quite well for themselves. Some of the younger ones have to start out with a bigger operator but with some experience you can make great money

Pros: MONEY.

Cons: Lots of blame when the holes are dry. Less respect than the engineers.

But MORE than the land men.

I think a lot of geos get a bad rap because so many of the older ones are just weird

Geos old and young are weird. Old engineers are aholes. Landmen are the least sociable of all for some reason lol.

ETA: Your bro won't fit in as a geo if he can't grow a full beard.
