Just read an article and watched a segment on WBRZ about a student who goes to Episcopal High School and has been denied his senior season of sports by the LHSAA because of his age (19) apparently the kid came to the US 6 years ago and learned English and everything he needed to start a new life here.

Anyways something interesting i came across and wanted to share.

Kid is from the Congo, and now in America. I doubt him not being allowed to play another year of LHSAA sports will make him want to go back.

Then you'd have to make an exception for every heavy heart case out there

Its not too often you have a kid come from a war torn country who had to learn a new language and catch up on 4 grades worth of material

If I'm not mistaken I don't think he went to Episcopal until 9th grade

They are now introducing a House Bill (i think) that says anyone who is 19 before september 1 can play varsity sports in the 2014-2015 school year.

He went to Episcopal, but had to repeat eighth grade so he would be able to pass high school. I know people say that this opens the flood gates, but it does not. You will never ever see another story like this, and the disrespect that the LHSAA showed at the hearing today was embarrassing.

The bill was approved and will be moved on to the next stage of the process.

Just like what was stated in the other 4 threads two weeks ago

The kid is too old. It's a cut and dry issue.

You make an exception for him then you open up a Pandora's box.

We currently have some 8th graders at my school who are ESL kids who can't participate because of age and will likely be in a similar situation in HS. It's interesting to me because when they come into the country, often times they're assigned a birthday based on some loose criteria (a handful of records). Especially if you have kids from areas like Africa where in some countries there is no written language.

He goes to Episcopal. If he even has half arse decent grades colleges will be falling over themselves to give him an academic scholarship or something. Maybe basketball too.

He has been here for six fricking years. People act like he jus. Showed up last year playing basketball for the first time ever, and now mean people aren't letting him play.

Follow the fricking rules like every one else. Jesus
