Is the all time home run record really the most prestigious record in sports?

They were trying to argue on the radio today that this is not the most prestigious, hallowed, sacred record in sports.

Instead they were making a case for the all time Super Bowl ring record, all time passing TD/passing yards record, all time rushing yards record, etc.

The reason I think that the all time career HR record is the most sacred in sports is because everybody knows who the record holder is. Even non baseball fans.

Hell I am a sports guy and I couldn't even tell you who the passing TD/passing yards record holder is and I only know Emmitt Smith holds the rushing yard record because I am from DFW.

Anyway, the guys on the radio were wrong

It was. Now it's a joke.

Now I'd say Jack's 18.

Baseball is the only sport where records really matter to people.

Which is the reason it's the only sport players taking HGH matters to people.

Baseball has taken a huge hit. When your all time hits leader and your all time HR champ will never enter your hall of fame, it certainly hurts your image.

All that HGH he took, he's probably ready for porn. His cap size isn't the only thing that increased.

Nah it changes too much. I can't even remember the number or who held it before Bolt.

I think so.

I think at some point the steroid era will get the asterisk treatment.

McGwire/Sosa/Bonds should never, ever, sniff the HOF.

Aaron and Ruth and Maris for single season should be the standard bearers moving forward.

Its fairly obvious that the crackdown on performance enhancing drugs has brought power numbers back in line with historical norms.

frick their taint on the game. frick them all.

I feel like the NFL career rushing record is up there. Barry Sanders could have crushed it but didn't. The only person to ever come close to Payton was Emmitt Smith when he did break it. I was pretty young then, but I remember that being followed/watched very closely by even non-sports fans. Nothing like the McGwire/Sosa HR race, but look where that got us...

I dont know any Cardinals fans who are proud of McGwire in the here and now.

Are you trying to say that only the Cards had players on steroids during that era?

I fricking embrace the Cardinal hate up in here...
